On my recent trip to Myanmar, I visited the Pioneer nightclub in Yangon, a disco that’s known as one of the hangouts for free-lancers. . The admission fee is $5 and includes a drink. A “handler” escorted me to a table. The room is large and the music is deafening.  This was a Tuesday evening so it wasn’t very busy, but women appeared to outnumber the men. Many of the women were on the dance floor dancing with each other; if they were looking to hook up it certainly wasn’t obvious. I noticed a few women sitting at a table off the floor; when I approached one seemed interested. Conversation was nearly impossible, given the loud music and lack of English, but the “handler” moved us to a more private alcove where we could try to talk. She wanted $100; I countered with the equivalent of $60 in the local currency. She immediately accepted: I obviously should have started lower. At any rate, we left the club, with the handler, doorman and others asking for tips. Once back in my hotel, we showered together and did the deed, satisfying but no means GFE. She asked if she could leave; we never clarified whether I bought ST or LT but I sent her on her way. There’s a few other clubs in town, but I was sufficiently unimpressed not to check them out on other nights.
