I think the writers of some of these hobby related stories bring their personal experience to the enterprise, so I wouldn't be surprised if the writer had this situation.
When I watched "Mighty Aphrodite", where WoodyAllen goes to an in call, the interactions and the props in Mira Sorvino's apartment have the total ring of truth to them. The 2 call system, the door knock and reveal, the envelope were all really authentic. I remember thinking "Somebody did their research."
Somebody got assigned the movie equivalent of fact checking, or Woody Allen himself directed the action a certain way. Though its been years, I remember zipping my lips when our group started discussing whether the situations were "realistic. Hell yeah!

In the real world it wouldn’t have taken two minutes, just enough conversation to make sure her lips were sealed, this never happened, and how difficult life would be if she ever uttered a word. In Hollywood, the writer has to pad the plot to sell the script. He will milk the scene for all he can get. Those who are not in the hobby world will be entertained, and those who are, will find it weird.

A very good friend of mine hired a receptionist for his office-very attractive-etc....He had a customer come in from out of town for a meeting and turns out he had a session with the receptionist the evening before at his hotel-the receptionist moonlighted as an escort and what do you know-the stars aligned !!! And... he had set the call up about a week in advance of his scheduled meeting and used his own name! Guess she hadn't connected the dots !!! End result was my friend ultimately found a way to let her go so as to avoid some sort of internal issue when it would have eventually been discovered !
