Curious about those who  have had success with cock rings ,but especially those who have had no joy with them. Any techniques that make them work better?
Thanks

I guess could write a book.  At least a monograph, as Sherlock Holmes repeated did about obscure topics that he encountered.

After my prostatectomy I got a lot of samples of medical cock rings from my urologist.  Noticed 2 things right away, they are all silicone, and they come in different sizes. They worked well during my recovery, but when I went to look for replacements that didn't look so "medical" I ran into a huge wall of ignorance, even at the more enlightened and couples friendly sex shops.

At the stores I saw stainless steel rings, you'll never catch me using one of those, can't get them off if you suddenly needed to.  Saw thin neoprene rubber ones, they're just repurposed O rings someone is making 1000% on.  Meant to go under the balls to enhance sensation, not really constriction rings.  I went on Amazon, Blowfish, etc.  Ordered a couple here and there to try them out, but none really panned out except for the original medical grade ones. So I went back to the medical ones and made them less medical looking by cutting off the "ears" that the manufacturer puts on for "safety" reasons, and stuck to the black, grey, clear colors.

My take aways are these:
-Stay with stretchy silicone, they can be sterilized by boiling briefly.
-Try different sizes and degrees of stretch to see what works for you.  The different colors of the medical ones indicate the different stretch strength.
-If you don' shave, at least shave around the base of your penis for obvious reasons
-Use plenty of lube
-put the cock ring on after the rubber, it helps hold it on, which is a bonus to some ladies

Of all the possibly workable substitutes for the medical grade rings, its kinda funny to me that silicone wedding rings, which come in suitably large sizes, work pretty well. they're on Amazon.

Another ring that works pretty well are the small diameter, but wide, rubber bands that you find around bunches of broccoli.

Technique summary: right degree of stretch, right size.

Practice by yourself with some porn to get familiar with your body'responses and how to control it.

Thanks.  that is a lot of information.

Of course the gent has to be open unless I plan to chase him around the room or strap him down.

The set with 3 metal rings. It goes around the shaft of the cock and not the balls. I like these the most out of the ones we have tried.

I have an injury that doesn't allow me to keep an erection, even if I do get a full one. The cock rings have been great for me. I can get hard and stay hard for a long time with them. They actually improve my sensitivity, which was diminished by my injury.
It has been a trial and error thing. I have found what works by buying lots of them.
What I have found is that, like what was said before, is to use lots of lube when putting it on. Practice at home, yes homework. And the biggest thing for me has been variety. I use different ones at different times. Sometimes I like one that goes around my cock and balls and sometimes just one around my cock.  Sometimes, I enjoy both at once.

The different materials, sizes and thicknesses give different sensations and responses. But, most of all, they give me the ability to get hard enough and stay hard enough to enter a vagina or arse.

One really important thing is to not keep them on too long. You need to let the blood circulate every now and then.

Good luck and have fun.

a ring with a little vibrator built into the top. It is a new type that does not have an on/off switch. It activates when it is touched by the lady's body. It was very fun and the lady loved it.

I buy them on Amazon
By the dozens lol
One per person and he can reuse it later if he cares to take it with him
I buy the stretchy silicone with the vibrator
They are a wonderful addition to my hands mouth and pussy and they slip over the cock and under the balls with the vibrator under the balls

...with your cock ring bump it up a notch by exploring the kind with a little vibrators is on them.
I think a plain ring is kind of boring..
I don't think I I own a sex toy that doesn't vibrate ;)

Me likey vibration ;). Ha!

Recently tried to use a cock ring to maintain hardness.  Used lube so it slid on pretty easy. But I found that it would not stay all the way down at the base. It would slide up an inch or so. I have the silicone medical type rings in a bunch of sizes. Am I trying to use one that is too big or too small? Also noticed when the ring slid up I would end up with a semi hard cock. Any thoughts or experience that might help?

I don't know about rings, but I have had that problem with some condoms--both the rolling up and the semi-hard cock. In my case, with the condoms, it seems they were too small--Little Cav is kinda thick and tapers a bit from the base. And I think the oversnug fit might have pushed blood back out instead of holding it in. Don't know if a too-small ring would have the same effect, but I'd try going up a size.

They have a cock ring with dual pleasure vibration it is fun!

Durex makes one now. I tried it this week, after a little practice and my partner and I were both very please. It did the job.

I like the set of three silicone rings (large, medium, small).  They're inexpensive and easy to clean.  The large goes around the cock and under the balls, the medium goes around just the balls, and the small goes around just the base of the cock.  You can use all three simultaneously or just one, whatever you fancy.  Having the versatility is nice.

Makes me harder and makes my orgasms more intense - so they're a fun tool.  For your tool.  :-)

But don't leave them on for longer than 20 minutes or so, you need circulation down there.

The last time I enjoyed two women they put a cock ring on me and after about 40 minutes of fun and sexual tension my release came. The force was so strong that I broke the cock ring when I shot my wad.  It was the combination of the cock ring and two good looking sexual women that made a difference and for a 70 yo guy that was fun.  I would do it again in a heartbeat if I got the chance.

I call that the best success story ! Congratulations

Thanks theoldcavalier. Don't know how I didn't see that.

Tried it - it's fricken awesome - thanks!

So this is the set up I use. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JPNIEPQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Very rarely she can coax me to attention but it never lasts - otherwise out comes the pump.  Either way this is far easier than trying to pull on a very tight silicone ring with high tension.

Tips:
Use more lube than you think you need - makes transfer on and off the cone/ring assembly (and your cock when you are done) much easier.
Trim your hair down there.  You do NOT want to get your short and curlies tangled up on the ring.
I use a water based lube and have seen no degradation since April when I bought these (10-12 uses) - I do however have spare rings on hand.

This is an important question!!  I sometimes use these in conjunction with a pump.  The pump came with four different sizes of cock rings.  8mm, 7mm, 6mm, 5mm.  I have been using the 8mm sizes (the biggest) with good success.  Twice tried the 7mm size.  Seemed way too tight.  I had no idea I was that big.  (I'm not, just average).  Are guys really using rings that tight?  I see my uro Thursday and intend to ask him how tight is too tight.  Interesting solution.

Yes, use LOTS of lube going on and coming off.  My only mishap has been a bad blood blister when not using enough lube.  No injury.  Went away.  But still an embarrassment.

Most of the rings discussed, referenced or linked to in this thread are too small even for the average guy.  I used the larger sizes that came with my pump.  I thought the tiny ones that they supplied were just to make me feel good!

I started with the largest size, didn't work, stepped down to the one that was giving me consistent results, which I think was the #8, too.  I cut those big "ears" off and trimmed the remaining stubs to make it smooth. I also sterilize after each use, if that even needs to be said.

Start with the largest size and see how it works.  A lot depends on how much help and support you need to begin with.  It also depends on what you plan on doing.  I need it for total support.  For me personally a 7mm is fine for manual or oral.  A 6mm will only last a few minutes before the blood has bypassed the band.  The 5mm will let me go the max 30 minutes I allow before removing the band.

The ears make it much easier to remove.  I find the only real discomfort is trying to pull it off over the erection - just wearing it gets lost in the other sensations for me.

Thanks nyguy.  That is pretty much my experience.  I need the ears to help extract it.  I did talk to my uro yesterday about sizing.  He is not too bothered by the really small sizes.  He said sometimes the small sizes are required by some guys to maintain a strong erection, but that comfort comes into play too.  He said use the size that seems best. (!?) Sort of a general answer.  But he did say the small sizes don't cause any damage.
