Just look at Joe Namath's career stats... then check out Warner's numbers. K.W. definitely belongs in the HoF.
option for the HOF. His INT to TD ratio is not good. Most of his stats were in the last five years. His career did not start well.
In five years, we can debate this again when the class of 2015 is announced.
He has always been a class act who got to go out on his own terms. He and I actually have one thing in common: I, too, once worked in a grocery store, stocking shelves and bagging groceries. Alas, that's where the similarities end. (haha)
He'll make a terrific commentator. He is a class act.
KW has been a class act. He may be a bit too religious for many of us, but he was a great player, a stand-up guy throughout his career, and the Cardinals will have a difficult time replacing him. I expect he will make the NFL HOF in due course...
Warner had three great seasons with the Rams (1999-2001), winning 2 MVP's and leading them to 2 Super Bowls, winning one. He was a three time Pro Bowler during that span.
Then from 2002-2006 (5 seasons worth) he did virtually nothing....whether he was injured or lost his job (i.e. to Bulger and Manning) statistics don't lie. Then in 2007 he did fairly well, had a great 2008 season (his 4th Pro-Bowl season) in leading the Cardinals to the Super Bowl (and he played great again against the Steelers in the Super Bowl), and finally this past season was again solid in leading the Cardinals back to the playoffs.
His career is quite unusual. Brilliant start, mediocre to poor middle, and solid finish. What helps Warner possibly get in the Hall of Fame is three fold. One he played outstanding in all the Super Bowls (even though he only won one of three games), throwing for more than 350 yards all three times. If you play well on the big stage it helps your candidacy. Two, he did win two league MVP's, which even if the rest of your career is mediocre, you will always be thought of as an elite star. And three, Warner is considered one of the nicest men in the business; a real classy gentleman. Being a "good guy", a great teammate, and really media friendly, always carries tremendous weight among people who vote.
