"Destroyed" huh...Do not fool YOURSELF either...

On Windows, like most operating systems, "deleting" doesn't really delete (widely known for some time).  Even formatting a drive isn't good enough.  If you want it "destroyed", you need a multi-pass wipe program.

Are you paranoid yet?

I orignally started this as a reply to another thread talking about client lists getting compromised when an agency gets busted, but I realized it really deserves a thread of its own.  Question, for both the ladies and the gents:  what kind of records do you maintain with regard to the Hobby?  For how long?  By what means (computer, paper, little black book, whatever)?  What would 'best practice' for these issues be?

The computer stuff frankly scares me.  Knowing the sieve-like 'security' of M$ Windows (the OS of choice for the overwhelming majority of folks on this board, I'm sure), I shudder to think of what gets mailed around by spy-bots, virii and the like, without the computer owner having the faintest idea of what's going on.  Not to mention what happens if LE busts that particular person and confiscates the computer.  It *is* possible to build a system that will keep out the malware and, yes, even the donut eaters (using something like Linux with an encrypted filesystem), but it isn't easy for most folks to set up.

Cheers!

What do I keep?

Until I've met you and are comfortable, EVERYthing.  After we've met, a 3x5 card with a nickname, and general physical desc (blonde, 5'10", glasses), but no contact information.  This allows me to give references to other ladies without compromising your security, and allows you to reschedule without all of the hoops involved in your initial screening.

It is all deleted -  trash, cookies and cache cleared nightly.
If anyone out there has ideas on something that I am missing, I am always open to suggestions for improved security.

xoxo,
Sola

PS - I use a Mac exclusively, and have yet to be hit with a virus (fingers crossed)...

Two questions:
1) Do you leave your business card?
2) Can business cards be used when they bust your provider? (answer only if you know LOL)

If they wanted to, LE could get any encryption system that they want broken.  They have or can get contact with labs that can do such a thing.  I suggest keeping information to do good verification, but it should be destroyed as soon as that goal is accomplished.

Last I looked, RSA and IDEA were still 'believed to be secure'.  It's certainly possible that some of the spooks over at NSA may have broken one or both, but if so, they've kept it *real* quiet.  They certainly wouldn't be letting that cat out of the bag for something as minor as a prostitution case.  It's virtually certain that the Justice Dept/FBI does *not* currently have the capability.

Cheers!

So what, my name is in some provider's little black book?  They find email records showing me corresponding with her?  Big deal.  Unless you're dumb enough to say anything incriminating which would invalidate you as a potential client anyway, you haven't done anything illegal.  I'm not saying there wouldn't be embarassment but I can't believe the law would conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that you engaged in an illegal activity simply because you had written contact with a provider.
