It was no gimme.

Until Williams turned up the heat at 2-2 in the third set, she had been letting it slip away.  As the last US Open showed, the mental can affect the outcome of the match as well as the physical, and Williams (whose match it was to lose) could have easily lost it yesterday, so "no surprise" isn't quite accurate.  I wish Justine would have won, but Williams deserved it, and now on the Roland Garros.

A good one until 2-2 in the 3rd-I got up at 330am-yawn-Serena's serve was the difference-and Justine couldn't get a first serve in in the 3rd or so it seems-12 Grand Slams for Serena now-If they play at the French, bet the house on Henin-She's the Queen of Clay-1rob...sleepily...out

I find it amazing how dominate the William sister are.Especially since they have scaled back on tennis and are involved in other things..I can't image how great they would be if the really devoted more time to tennis..I love seeing them play

Williams winning a major tennis tournament is ABSOLUTELY no surprise.  Hell, how many majors has she won already, 12?  In the same vein, if Federer wins the Aussie Open, it too would be no surprise.

That's why I am happy to see Kim Clijsters and Justine back, as the other ladies out there are so maddeningly inconsistent that no one seems to be a serious threat to Williams at the majors.  In a way, that's why I was hoping Justine would win (although I also prefer her...or anyone...over a Williams), so that it would shake up the field a bit more.  Hopefully, she will come through at RG.

HI, MSD,
Serena has beaten Justine only once on clay and that was in 2002-life record on the dirt is 4-1 Henin-The clay slows down Serena's huge service advantage-obvious on the hard courts and grass- and allows Justine's slight movement and groundies advantage to come into play-She has beaten Serena twice at the French and there are huge odds she'll do it again-JH is the best in the world on the red stuff, IMHO, and I'll be putting some big bucks on her if they meet in Paris in May-1rob
