I actually appreciated the movie - which I believed could be broken down into 3 sub-movies.  

The flighty beginning when Tom & Nicole are flirting with almost everyone at the party; the middle involving Nicole's disclosure to Tom of her fantasy of being ravaged by the Naval Officer and Tom subsequently seeking out sex with someone else as "revenge" and going to the mansion sex party and the last part when it turns into a pseudo murder mystery suspense thriller.

All of Kubrick's films are slow paced - think he must have had stock in companies that manufacture film!

But when I saw those "sex scenes" at the manison with the beautiful babes I just wanted to go home and bang the shit out of my SO.
