Off-duty deputy robbed, locked up

An off-duty Milwaukee County sheriff's detective was robbed and locked in the trunk of his car Sunday morning after trying to solicit a prostitute at N. 17th and W. Wright streets, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

Kim Brooks reported that the detective, who works in the department's Criminal Investigations Division but wasn't identified, was put on paid leave. He was not armed and was driving his own car at the time of the robbery, Brooks said.

The detective went with the prostitute to an area where he was robbed of his wallet, badge, sheriff's identification, handcuffs and two clips for his handgun and then locked in his trunk, said Sgt. Ken Henning, spokesman for the Milwaukee Police Department, which received an anonymous call that a sheriff's detective was locked in his trunk.

The Police Department is expected to recommend the deputy be charged with soliciting a prostitute.
