A year (or two) of service would benefit most 18 year old's. I did 4 years, but it was a memorable time for me, and no college or university experience could compare ... plus I got educational benefits that came in handy later in life. A year or two of living like a dog in a infantry unit will ensure that most kids go to college because they don't ever want to live like that again.
