I'm an independent who drove a total of 2 1/2 hours to meet a new client then when I got there he wanted to write me a check for $1,000.  My site says cash only. I declined and left without even any money for gas!  He insists escorts take checks..I disagree.

I had one take a check.  However, it was mailed to her, she cashed it in advance.  And I had seen her before, so I was pretty sure that she wasn't going to cash it and then not see me.  So she cashed it, and then I saw her.  As for you, after driving 2 1/2 hours, you didn't have much more to lose if you had stayed and tried cashing the check.  It hopefully likely had his correct identification information on it.  Writing a bad check, especially for that amount is a serious crime in most areas.  It would be your word against his as to the purpose of the check if he tried to threaten you with selling illegal activities.  But even if he did that, that would have been a two-edged sword since he would have been buying illegal activities?

That was probably his plan..I drove all the way I would have no choice except to take it.  Besides, I don't have time to chase down money.

no checks, no IOUs, and no Monopoly money.

Sorry you had to be on the recieving end of that bullshit story.  Never take a check even if you know someone the potential for stop payment is always going to be a temptation and all it would take is someone percieving that you somehow did something wrong to justify the stop payment action.  You did the right thing better to be out 4 hours drive time then to be out 4 hours drive time plus 1000 plus the expended effort for no dollars.  Be glad you left.

I woundn't feel comfortable.  I got pretty pissed at him after he sent me an e-mail complaining about the $85 he lost getting the (sleazy) hotel room.  I lost $1,000 and 2 1/2 hours of my day! To top it off I turned down two other appointments that day because I already had him scheduled.  By the way he said he had already withdrawn $500 from the cash machine that day and couldn't withdrawl more.  We had the appointment scheduled for 1 week. He must assume girls in this business are desperate, stupid or both.  WRONG!

'Cuz, hey, Jennifer Garner took a check and gave Leo DiCaprio cash back!

Seriously, I'd get yourself a PayPal account and insist on a deposit before you drive that kind of distance to see a client...for your own sanity and economic well-being.

I personally hate dealing with cash each time I see an ATF.  For some I have worked out a payment system via check.  The way it works is I pay in advance for a number of sessions.  For the current session I pay cash.  This allows the check to clear before our next session and the ATF has cash for the current session.  Additionally, I make the check payable to the ATFs company and can charge it as a business expense.

Good for you, 223...you just earned my respect.  I feel very sorry for your wasted time, but a check could be a red alert for so many reasons.  Kudos to you for having the gumption to walk away, and I hope that the men of your city more than make it up to you.  I like your style.

You did the right thing! Just think, if taken the check, and it was bad, you would have really been Fucked! (big pun intended) LOL!

ALWAYS, go with your gut feelings, they can be an angel on your back! :)

Take Care,

Kelly

I've accepted personal & cashier checks when Reservations are made well in advance for overnighters, weekends and extended trips. I've personally never received a stop payment and i've been entertaining for 4 yrs.

You'll find most affluent businessmen have separate accounts used for entertainment.  Once they've made the decision to see you, they'll either want to send a personal or cashier's check for the full amount at the time of scheduling.  Depending on the kind of clients you entertain, your intutition is your best judgement.

I accept company checks from self employed regulars all the time. : )

What a con!  And how he set this up.  I'm so glad you rebuffed him.  The rule has always been: cash only.  I think that's the way nature meant it. :-)  Anyway, that's the quid pro quo, and that liar/fraud/rapist very well knew it.

The internet's giving more options now, and if this society ever goes cashless, I don't know how providers will run things then, but checks have never been acceptable.

I have heard of streetwalkers taking travellers checks, but that's a completely different animal (the latter, I mean, not the former).

I wonder, unfortunately, if this guy isn't trolling the internet thinking of other ploys.

Then it would be the jerk who tried to rip her off worrying, not her. I like the idea of prepaying, it forces me to do better, more complete research before doing so and it assures the lady that I will show up once I have booked her time.

Anyone wanting to use a check is either an idiot or a rip-off.  A check usually has home address and of course your account number.  You have to ask yourself who would give this out willingly?  And most banks will allow you to take out $4-500 from your accounts at an ATM.  This guy was clearly one of the two choices above.

I have recently started accepting checks. The thing is I am using a company called Cell Charge. I turn the checks into a check by phone with the aid of my trusty cell phone. I simply slap a sticker on the back of the check and ask the client to sign it... The sticker states that the check will be turned into an automated check for a one time transaction in the amount of $???.?? I use my cell phone and call in the transaction and get an authorization #. I use the same company to process my credit card transactions. Ladies you may want to catch up with the times...check out the link below...

PS I have never had a transaction that was approved charged back...if the funds are not there you will not recieve an authorization #...there are no monthly fees you only pay I think 3% of the transaction in fees and you can easily ask your client to help you out with that by adding a small fee to use the service...also I believe there is a one time sign up fee of $100 or $200 dollars... I joined so long ago mine was only $50, but hey that is industry for you...

Call Cell Charge at 1-866-750-0271

I would never suggest writing a check, but once I had an escort suggest I write a check.  I was still a little new and I called an escort service in the phone book.  They told me a fee for which I had the cash.  But when she got there, of course she wanted a big tip on top of the fee to do anything more than a hj.  I didn't have enough extra cash and she asked if I could write a check to the agency, which caused the tip to double.  And I, not thinking clearly, agreed to write her a check.  Fortunately, nothing bad happened, other than me spending way more money that I should have.

I have taken a few checks from clients but that are the ones I have seen at least 3 or 4 times before that I truely know. To start off with from first time meetings well I did that one before and got my check but azz munch didnt sign it. There are ups and downs in everything and you have to use your judgement and gut feelings on that one. You can try but there are no guarantees on that. I may do it again but this time make sure I watch him signe the dang thin.. Good luck sweetie..
