At 8pm Tuesday evening, April 28, I contacted the VA hospital in West LA to find out the condition of my friend Podge.
I was told he was out of surgery, and was resting comfortably, his daughter was with him, and he was resting comfortably, but unable to take calls.
I called Wedesday April 29, and was told he was in critical condition, but his daughter was with him and he was resting comfortably.
I called this morning, Thursday April 30 at 8am.
Called the same extension... and was informed they had noone by that name there, maybe he's "over there"... so they transferred me "over there"... and after 20 minutes of telephone rings, someone finally answered, only to inform me they had noone by that name there. And I was transferred again... and after 5 minutes on hold, I heard "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again".
At 8:55am, I got back to the original place, where the fellow apologized, and finally transferred me to their administrative office, where 30 minutes of waiting later, I was informed Podge had passed away on Tuesday evening April 28 at about 730pm.
I'm far too upset to be useful right now. This is no way to run a hospital.
Try to focus on those things you can and need to do, plenty of time to vent and protest later.
