check out Washingtonian Magazine's dining section. You can break everything down by cuisine, location, price, etc. A very handy reference.

...not looking for provider recommendations but would not mind if a recommendation in that area was to be offered up.

I'm actually looking for recommendations on restaurants in the area/and or a place for a quiet drink. Not looking for the exclusive/elite places with stratospheric prices and a requirement for coat and tie. More interested in good food in a casual setting and one where someone dining alone would feel comfortable. I enjoy a variety of foods but it has been many years since I lived in the DC area and I'm not familiar with the restaurant scene in Norhtern VA especially. I know I could do an online search or look through a travel guide but sometimes the locals may have insight that isn't available through those means.

I know, I know this is a bit off topic but please resist the temptation to give the location of the nearest Taco Bell or KFC etc, LOL

So anyone who might have a little free time and perhaps could offer a suggestion or two on restaurants-I would appreciate it.

Feel free to send PM if you prefer not to post.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to DC!
Mackey's over on L St, between 18th and 19th, is pretty good! A nice pub-like atmosphere!
Also, there is a nice French place across from the Melrose Hotel, over on the 2400 block of Pennsylvania?
For dining alone, but not for long (!), the Wyndham Restaurant, 1400 M St is a good place with good food, and good people! :)
...
The Starbucks beside the Radisson Barcelo P St, may well be the nicest one in town! Great upstairs with lots of tables and chairs, and a nice view!
...
But I am afraid we have nothing here that matches the food and the view at Brockton Villa, La Jolla Cove, dude!
...
Provider recommendations?
You can read some of the posts below to get a very good feel for newly independent 21-year old Nikki, visiting blonde, Maggie, from Arizona, and the quintessential GFE, Gabriella of Beauties of Eden!
All three are fine and lovely ladies!
Good luck, and please travel safe! :)

dc!

No. Virginia is loaded with quality restuarants, many the same as downtown, i.e., Mortons, Ruth Cris, etc. but if you are near Tysons Corner, one of the best is the Colvin Run Tavern (operated by the same chef as Kinkade's (a downtown winner on I Street between 19th & 20th), but very pricey. If you want good basic food in NoVa, try Sweetwater Tavern or Arties but be sure to call ahead since they have call ahead lists but do not take reservations and the wait can stretch to hours.  If I new where in No. Va. you are going to be, I can advise you better.

If you like spicy food, try the Little Viet Garden in Roslyn.  Great food and reasonably priced.

In NVA you will find several nice places in Reston Town Center..Palios is one of my faves...Clydes is also good....The Warehouse in Oldtown Alexandria is also one of my faves.  You will find many around Dupont Circle...like the previous post indicates there are some neat small..quite places near the Radison [Dupont Circle]...I recently enjoyed a delightful meal with a young lady at Johnnys Halfshell.  Enjoy your visit...you will find great restaurants and outstanding providors in our area!!

...for the info and great suggestions. I think I have more than enough options from which to choose.

I'll be staying in Herndon but I'll have a rental car so some driving will not be a problem. (However it has been many years since I've driven the beltway)

Thanks again to everyone!!!
