I think that quote unquote "deviant sexuality" was a theme in his movies.  Remember how he took his son so a brothel in "Honkytonk Man" (and the boy was played by his real life son Kyle), and then remember in "Tightrope" how deviant his character was, and there was a scene where he was "set up" by a killer playing mind games with him to find his teenage daughter tied up and in a semi suggestive pose (and the girl was played by his real life daughter, Alison).  That scene with his daughter creeped me out big time.
