I've never been to Blues Alley.  I get the feeling that its slightly more classy than Twins Jazz and that you need a reservation for there.  It might be worth it to get a reservation there.

I've been to Twins Jazz on U Street several times.  Usually no reservation required, great music and a menu with a nice selection of Ethiopian food.

They recently opened a another place, Twins Lounge, on Colorado Ave.  Might be worth a try.

Can you recommend a goof jazz club in DC. Taking a lady our Friday night.

Here's a link to several Jazz clubs in the District and surrounding area.

I can't remember the name of the little jazz club that is right in Georgetown, but it is really cool too.  From Bethesda, you would go Wisconsin and make a right on M Street.  Been only a few times but it was fun.
