Being married twice, I always insisted on separate bank accounts because I like to shop, get Botox massages, designer jeans, hair extensions whatever, and I do not want to have to explain what I do with my hard earned money.

He thus has the same freedom. the we have one bank account that we have divided up the bills to be electronically drafted out of and Hey, that works for me. Kelley

I'm a married man, and therefore I have to spend a lot of mental effort making sure that I don't leave evidence of my hobbying activities where my wife can find it, and figure out what I'm doing. That means, for example, having an excuse for being out of the house and out of touch during a date, and always coming home smelling like I did when I left.

One of the thorniest problems I face is the money trail. I constantly have to figure out a way to accumulate the cash I need for a date without creating suspicious circumstances that will trigger my wife to investigate where the money is going. I'm guessing that this problem is common to married men in the hobby whose wives have full access to the family finances, as mine does.

One approach I have used is to take $40 or $60 of extra cash every time I go to the supermarket. These transactions show up innocently on the bank statement. If I make a date only once every 3 weeks for so, this will usually work out.

But I'm interested to know if other guys have the same problem and how they have learned to deal with it.

On you and the SO's routine.

Some ladies take alternative means of payment (IE gift cards and things)

"i need some cash for an office raffle/fantasy football etc.'
I need some cash to contribute a present for the boss
I'm playing poker with the boys tonight and need some cash
My brother wants to borrow $300
I'm going to buy some weed from the kid down the street (LOL!)
I need one$$$ for the tittie bar
I keep passing this poor female bum on the way to work and want to make her day by giving her $50

Of course, a PO Box and a completely separate bank account works, too - if you can manage that.

I'm great at excuses :)
I probably should have went into politics :

When I was still married, I had that problem and here is what I did. My other hobby is restoring cars, boats and motorcycles which are always cash deals. I would buy a car or boat for say $1500 and sell it a month later for $3000 (after repairs) and I would always give my SO part of the profits. I would keep the rest for the next fixer upper and have enough of a slush fund to keep me entertained

Now I'm scared.
