END OF MESSAGE

In reading a book recently, the author mentions an Englishman from the early 20th century who was a fabulously wealthy heir to a marmalade fortune, and having little else to do, decided to devote his time to cultivating and writing about strange sexual practices.

One in particular got me curious:

He would have a woman wearing only a Macintosh enter a wicker laundry basket and then poke her with an umbrella through the holes in the basket.

Doesn't do much for me, but whatever.

You'd think he'd at least find some way to involve the marmalade

Now, sitting in the wicker basket while she poke ME with the umbrella. That's hot. ;-)
What was the name of the book?

And did you read the entire book?

I got the title wrong.  It's called "The Road to Little Dribbling"

I'm up to about page 170.  It's not a book about weird sex practices, more about a travelogue through rural England.

I've read most if not all of Bryson's books.

Here's a link to it:

Some very odd sexual practices still go on. Especially with the Aristocracy and the Landed Gentry.
