Only rock n' roll for me ... can't stand country.  I'm a northern guy and just can't relate to country song lyrics or the need for grown men to dress up in cowboy costumes while they sing.  Just not a fan of conservative southern bible belt culture.  Good thing I live in the Triangle instead of almost anywhere else in NC!

I do like some female country singers like Taylor Swift and Shania Twain when they branch out into more mainstream rock.

While I love my rock-n-roll I'm more of a country boy at heart.

hard to find any real country on the radio anymore, other than Eric Church and a few Zac Brown songs most of it is some weird cross between pop, hip hop and adult contemporary.

I don't think, Hank, or Waylon woulda done it this a way

Geez, I must be getting old, now I'm complaining about what kids are listening to instead of the one being complained about lol

My parents listened to old school country (Glen Campbell type).  I grew up listening to the harder sounds of a guitar and going to many rock concerts (my faves are the outdoor shows).  I am a southern girl at heart and enjoy some of the newer country artists music (Luke Bryan comes to mind).

Rock on y'all!!!

on the atmosphere and the company. I like it all except some of that ignorant rap that has no meaning. Chillin by the fireplace with some cool jazz, hanging in the woods or beach by a huge campfire with some country....whatever the time & place calls for with the peep your with.
I wish I could have made the Myrtle Beach Carolina Country Music Fest but unfortunately it wasn't in the stars for me this time.

I am surely an alternative junkie. Which is closer to rock and roll than that other you mentioned, lol. Nah, no disrespect to country. I actually had two friends in college who I hung out with a lot who would play some rockin country. And one of my old GFs friends got me on to some I enjoyed. It was old country though my college boys would play. George Strait type of country. Garth Brooks was the newer country they would play and liked a lot of that too. No country for me except I do have a few Brandi Carlile songs on my phone. She is like country, rock and pop though. Love her. Elle King too. Oh yeah, always do Mumford and Sons if you can call that pure country. I mostly love the Folk in it which is of course part of the country circle to me. Now I do love me some folk music when found! Some good folk soothes the heart.

Alternative has the best mix of emotions in my book. Love that. Give me some of The Jezabels, Florence + The Machine, Birdy, Sia, Robyn, Stevie Nicks, Oasis, David Gray, Tired Pony, Ed Sheeran, Adele and on and on. I'm a happy happy soul when listening.

Love me some rap too when I'm dealing with the bullshit and the grind. But I'm talking 90s rap. Very very little of this new gen. I'll tear my eyes out.

All genres of music have in abundance the ignorant and the no meaning I might add to one of these comments. All those with words involved, lol!!! I mean an abundance. Music is DEAD but there are some gems out there.

I was some kinda pissy ill when I saw Taylor Swift snagging her title....
"Shake it Out" the FIRST ONE....
was from F+Machine.
:-P

Lyrics-
Lyrics
Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play

And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues drawn
It's always darkest before the dawn

And I've been a fool and I've been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I'm always dragging that horse around

All of his questions, such a mournful sound
Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues drawn
But it's always darkest before the dawn

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

And I am done with my graceless heart
So tonight I'm gonna cut it out and then restart
'Cause I like to keep my issues drawn
It's always darkest before the dawn

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
And given half the chance would I take any of it back
It's a fine romance but it's left me so undone
It's always darkest before the dawn

Oh whoa, oh whoa...

And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope
It's a shot in the dark aimed right at my throat
'Cause looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Well what the hell I'm gonna let it happen to me, yeah

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

From their second album. There are soooo many songs of theirs I love. That was one of my favs on that album! Along with What the water gave me, only if for a night, lover to lover, all this and heaven too. All their albums are great. So many beautiful songs. So many! One of the absolute best live shows I've seen too. Their new one just dropped recently and I'm in love with that one too. They make me smile 😄

They knocked down the door with Dogs days are over and just kept on going! It's amazing what a unique voice, great music and great lyrics can create! ;)

Shout out to Red Hot Chili Peppers too! :) As if they can hear me, lol. They are the quintessential "alternative" band to me. Especially when Frusciante was still on the guitar!

While I love my rock-n-roll I'm more of a country boy at heart.

I'm a damn Yankee through and through, I don't think I ever even heard a full country song till I moved down here!

I love music though and I can get into just about anything from Beethoven to megadeth to the doors to pennywise to run dmc to nirvana...
There isn't a whole lot of new music I like though, I find it lacks talent and meaning.

You name it I listen to it. Grew up on the likes of SRV, Bo Didley, Janis Joplin, Beatles, Stones, etc.

I love Michael Jackson, 90s music, ESP the R&B etc.

My favorite artist period is Rascal Flatts. #DontHate  I like my Little Big Town, Darius Rucker, Sugarland,  Zac Brown, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum etc,  more 90s country such as John Michael Montgomery, Joe Diffie, Alan Jackson, Bryan White, Martina Mcbride etc.

I love Doo Wop, 90s-2000s Pop, more "tame" Hip Hop.

A lot of folks have complimented my date playlist which is more alternative type music, laid back- The Fray, Michelle Branch, Gavin DeGraw, Blues Traveler, Edwin McCain, John Mayer, Train, Alanis Morrisette, Jason Mraz, etc

See the thing is... I like a LOT of different music... I feel like every scenario in life has a different "sound track" and sometimes one tune may suit more than another.
However, in highschool, I was the ultimate band & choir geek. Yup.
Robed choir, girls singers, quartet, marching band, pep band, symphony.... ugh lol
 Yeah...

So, I consider myself somewhat musically trained. There is a very generic pattern to what makes a song "successful" within the music industry.... very few songs sell that do not follow the basic pattern, although the ones that do reach success that do not, are very unique! I must have a melody in my music, that is one of my big things.... along with "message".... although I can be swayed by a hypnotic melody with garbage words, if it is catchy enough....
However, I like everything from classical to country to oldies to alternative (Shout-out to 90's alternative.... My glory days there lol I kid, I kid...  But I DO love my pandora station 90's alt....) I even love some R&B, the decent rap (by decent I mean with good hooks & a melody in there somewhere, not the sh*t I consider GARBAGE- i.e., Trap house music. No freakin melody what-so-ever.... Just chanting/screaming... same thing for I think it is called "Ska" ((???)) or scream-metal... OYE VEY!!!!! Musical atrocities... ) and even some folk music. John Denver holds a special place in my country-gal heart. :) Although, excessive banjo's always seem to make one of my eyes start switching... lol

Florence & the Machine as noted many times above, is freakin awesome, if you never heard the song "Shake it out" No, not Taylor Swifts version... lol  Even better, imo. ("And it's hard to dance with the devil on your back, so shake it out, shake it out...." -Lyrics)

I even (of course) love some broadway, mostly Webber stuff. Phantom, Les Mes, & Cats, I probably know every song by heart.... Blame it on choir. I also dig the show Glee, which remakes most of the top-40's & today's mainstream, and does some pretty interesting Mash-ups. I love a good mash-up. :D Again, I have a Glee mashup station on pandora...  I looked in my pandora and I am creeping up on 100 stations... Whew!
And if I search my phone, I have over 2,400 mp3's.... Of course, some are ringtones & notification sounds... Guess I went crazy there too, not only music, but also every single animal (from the barnyard to the zoo animals) because some people remind me more of the personification of animals rather than a particular song.

One of my ex's is a Goat's bleating sound. LMAO He was a little bit TOO country.
He brought me to a BBQ in the woods, very very bumfuct area.... ANd they were eating grilled squirrel, possum, racoon, and ..... goat. I did try the goat meat. Actually not too bad, if a bit stringy. Would make for good taco meat, I thought.
Anyways lol
