I've run into it - but, very, very rarely.

There was actually an incident in 2010 with a very well-known escort (she posted here) who apparently had a pimp. According to the news, they kidnapped a girl together and even advertised her on TER. While I never met her in person, she came across as extremely smart and literate in her posts. She seemed about as legit as you could get (to me, anyway). People who have been here a while will know who I mean (I don't have PM and am not sure I can post links to articles).

I've come across three other independents who had a "situation" - one had been pimped a few years back, one currently has a manager/boyfriend/pimp who takes ALL of her money. The last had (has? we lost touch) a husband who took all of her money (also, forced her to do some sessions w/undesirable clients such as those who wanted rape fantasies or unsafe activities)... even used some of her money to pay for sessions w/other girls. He'd also write shill posts for her, and women who worked for/with her.

The last incident involves an agency that went well beyond the traditional "middle man" role. This agency would basically force the girls to see certain clients, and do things with those clients against their will (fisting, greek, unsafe activities - this was in direct exchange for 10/10 scores from those clients, who were reviewers). These girls were not the more reliable/consistent employees and lives were rather unstable in general, from what I gathered... they were always in danger of getting fired. The agency always stressed how they were "helping" these girls by keeping them employed (and ostensibly educating them the ways of good service), letting them stay in incalls, and getting them better reviews.

Prior to 2009, I worked for a so-called Russian agency (although it was a mixture of Russians/Eastern Europeans and Brazilians with the odd Asian or grad student thrown into the mix). It was a B&S agency that was NOT on TER... however, it had a lot of regulars, and fulfilled a certain market (mainly late night). The owner was a thirty-something American/European dude who looked like he belonged on a college campus, and was always extremely helpful and polite. If there was a connection with the mafia, I certainly didn't see it (except, maybe a few of the clients were mafia... LOL).

I wouldn't assume everything is on the up-and-up just because a girl is independent, or because she's 'reputable' or 'well-reviewed.' On the other hand, I wouldn't assume that everything is thumbs down just because she's NOT any of those things. You just really never know, unless you know her... and even then, you don't always know.

I was talking to a friend tonight, and he said there has to be organized crime and/or pimps involved in the business. I've never seen any mention here of that, and wonder if any "independents" are actually run by pimps or mobsters. I know at the street level there's pimps, but don't know about the higher priced providers.

Does anyone have any insight?

One of the strippers I was friendly with at one of Boston's popular but now defunct strip clubs told me that she didn't like to sit with "George," a local celebrity of sorts, who is also now defunct, by natural causes, even though he was wealthy and bought plenty of expensive colored water drinks for her. One night, the owner, who is also now defunct by natural causes, said:

Owner: "George wants to sit with you. Why don't you go over and sit with him."
She: "I don't want to sit with George. I'm afraid of him. I think he's with the Mafia."
Owner: "George? He's not the Mafia! WE'RE the Mafia!"

First, I try to make a bit of a habit not getting to involved or informed about the provisioning side. I'll certainly  make an effort to tell if I think the provider is willingly participating or under duress (so far never seen one).

You're question and the claims are way to broad stroked. Are there pimps and organizations involved in this. Sure. Do they control everything and every provider? No. Last, what do you mean by organized crime? Since, and I'm assuming your question is largely USA-centric, P4P is illegal here any form or organization, including 100% independents without a single assistant, would be considered "organized crime" in a court. So your friend really needs to improve his critical thinking skills and not just spout out tautologies that provide any insight to anything.

My friend's specialty is spouting tautologies that don't provide insight. Especially when he's drunk (and he was wasted last night).

had a convo with about the subject.  It's usually a husband or boyfriend that manages their business because they don't have the aptitude for it.

I think it is rare among the gals we know and love.

Of course, agency gals could be considered organized crime and/or pimps, but I think we tend to give them a (derserved) pass on that.

In one of my former favorite's reviews, the reviewer mentions a pimp and an accomplice dropped my fave off at the hotel in a big Hummer. I'd always seen her traveling alone, and I had seen her outside the hotel at times, both coming and going.

The guy mentioned that the "pimp" and his friend were black. My guess is that the reviewer had never seen a black guy in person before.

As for agencies, there's one that deals almost exclusively with very young, beautiful Russian women. Their turnover is very high. I've wondered a few times if there isn't a Russian mafia connection. If there were, though, I think the FBI could nail them quickly, as I don't think the Russian mafia or any organized crime group could run ads on TER and not get stung. The local LE may be interested in prostitution, but I think the FBI would only pursue it if they could nail some big fish.

Is it widespread in the independent world? No. But does it exist? Yes of course. Even in the very high end. There was a very public case in LV a few years ago and it was discussed here on the TER boards.

Well, you've probably made my friend's day. I'm sure he'll go out and celebrate when he's done with his hangover. ;)

I wouldn't say it's "very very rare." but it's not pervasive. You are right. Well reviewed does not always mean there is nobody behind the scenes pimping her. Sometimes the "pimp" is really a husband or boyfriend. Unless you are behind the scenes, there is no sure way to tell.
