Actually the rainbow represents all queer people and their allies. Everybody knows that 
I'm pansexual meaning I'm open to dating male/female/trans/non-member binary/demi-sexual, a sexual etc. To me it's the personality that matters. And I have a rainbow choker that I wear semi - often to represent the lgbtq+ community.
The rainbow stands for unity and so it makes sense that it represents everyone lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, genderqueer trans, etc. There are lots of straight allies that sport rainbows at gay pride parades and events like that to show support. Next time a provider is wearing a rainbow tat and she says I'm not gay, what she probably means is I'm not gay. She either identifies with some other orientation or she's showing support for a close lgbtq+ friend or relative. I hope this helped clarify.

I dare say if you have only seen 33-38 providers you are the noob, Sir. In my 30+ years of hobbying I've seen over 300 across 27 countries. (Though I've only recently started posting reviews on TER.)
