So Bush and Cheney kept us safe with the small exception of 9/11 and they get a free pass on that one?  BTW, I love the irony of you posting this topic since the real Breaker Morant was executed for the mistreatment (murder) of POWs during the Boer War.

Bryan Mills, played by Liam Nielsen says to his ex-wife:”You live here in this bubble behind a wall, with your chauffeurs, guards and maids and you have no idea what it is like in the outside world”.

I will not tell you the plot of the movie. All I will say is thumbs up. Yes the movie is fictional but like Mr. Mills’ latte drinking liberal ex-wife many people in the United States are naïve. Bryan Mills could have been talking to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Harry Reid, Congressman Barney Frank and yes President Obama. People have forgotten that over 3,000 of fellow Americans died on September 11, 2001 for the act of going to work.

People want to believe like President Carter in the 1970’s, that Communism like Terrorism today is not a threat that we all can sing kumbaya and make the world a better place. Laudable as that may be, there are bad people in this world that want to harm us, and harm our children.

For those who think, closing Guantanamo Bay is going to end the War on Terror, forget about it. Once these prisoners are set free, they will be free to detonate I.E.Ds on Rodeo Drive. Recently, two supposedly innocent prisoners were sent back to Yemen and now they have reunited with Al Qaida. There is such thing as a reformed Terrorist. They have vowed an eternal Jihad and to them the only options are death to the infidels or die trying.

These prisoners were set free from Guantanamo Bay because Human Rights advocates cried that the United States government did not have enough evidence to incarcerate them. Now Obama says he wants to close Guantanamo but at the same time criticizes and handcuffs the brave men and women from doing their jobs. Pelosi and Reid even want to bring war criminal charges against the very same CIA, FBI agents who risk their lives everyday without so much as thank you for protecting us.

Criticize Vice President Cheney all you want, but the man kept us safe. Instead of admonishing him, President Obama should be awarding him a medal and saying thank you.

Apparently you didn't read the article. The only people President Obama is criticizing are Bush administration officials who made such a mess of thing at Guantanamo by releasing the wrong people and holding other indefinitely without any charges or trials.

I wouldn't consider Cheney, Rumsfeld and friends as "out brave men and women. More like Constitutional outlaws.

BTW, the actor's name is Liam Neeson, not Nielsen.

have been released from Gitmo of which per Pentagon sources 18 had "returned to the fight" and another 43 are under suspicion of being involved in extremist activities. What did you expect the Bush Adminstration to do with the evil doers lock them up in your local jail house?

What mess are you talking about? The 3,000 Americans who died on 9-11 were done by terrorists not Bush or Cheney. I may fault them for other issues but as far as their execution of the War on Terror, I give them a thumbs up.

You may call them constitutional outlaws, but I had the chance I would like to thank Bush and Cheney for keeping us safe.

As far as Gitmo we will see if Obama does close Gitmo. If he does close Gitmo, I will probably hang out in South America (my dollar goes further) until the next President arrives.

Count me in. There are plenty of chicas to go around. Do you have a particular country in mind?

The Colombian Peso is back down to about 2350 peso per dollar, that's still up about 50% from a year or so ago, but not as good as the almost 2600 pesos you could get for a US dollar about a month ago.

One place that is no longer a bargain is Argentina, you'll find yourself paying US prices nowadays.

Peru is nice this time of year. Great little beach town near Lima, called Callao. Also, Miraflores is trendy. The flora and fauna remind me largely of San Diego. Same weather patterns as well. With $5,000/month, you can live like a king. And the chicas, oh momma, are they ever hot, and love the yanquis. Check out the bar in the Hotel Crillon, in Lima. You won't have to wait long to fall in love for the evening.

its about as far south as I can go from Atlanta on a weekend trip. I have a friend of mine who is building a resort on one of the beaches near Lima. Who knows, maybe I won't come back?

It's still hard to beat Colombia for the chicas, I just keep going back for more.

What's this?  No  political insights gleaned from 6 years of "24"?  Jack Bauer's been kicking anti-American terrorist ass for all these seasons and hasn't made an impression upon you?

Americans are indeed naive, in matters of friend and foe alike.

I'd be careful about taking my political lessons from popular entertainments onceived nd produced to appeal to a mass audience solely for profit.

There's a sucker born every minute.

can't say, no memory at the age of 1 second.  you ought to realize that.

BTW, around 1998 one of the networks broadcast a made-for-TV movie based on some Tom Clancy rejected outline, and it was amazing - the plot had the US prez, played by Ken Howard, being blackmailed by the Israelis! "Tom clancy's Op Center" was the title.  Wat a revelation!  The first and last of it's kind for that plot line.

But ya see, Source, I didn't need popular entertainemnts to tell me that israel isn't to be trusted, that some Arabs engae in terrorist violence, that some Arabs hate the US because of America's su;port for Israel [hard to believe, bt true!], etc..  I figured all that out a long time ago.  I just followed the news and didn't believe the hype.

BTW, I've been away for a while but kudos on the Moderator gig.
