666 to you, too, Fishbro!

If providing was both completely legal (as it is in some countries) but also considered respectable enough for a conversation at the average Thanksgiving dinner (does not exist in any country or culture afaik), do you think the provider:hobbyist ratio would change in any way, and how so?

On the provider side, I am 100% sure there would be many more providers, which ultimately in my opinion would lead to lower rates, or at least more providers would be open to many different services.

There would be a LOT more providers, especially since this job doesn't require any skills to enter. There would also be a lot of unhappy clientele.

I wonder if it would even exist anymore.

That said, it would be interesting for a study to be done to see if the legality of the hobby makes for more, less, or about the same frequency of use.

If I had to bet, I'd say the same.

used car salesmen or an ambulance chasing shyster lawyer would be less frequently used.
( with "apologies" to any used car salesmen and less then ethical lawyers)

there are some lawyers who aren't ethical?  And what exactly is wrong with being a used car salesman?  How is that different from all of the used pussy saleswomen we have here?  I'm willing to bet they both misrepresent the actual mileage.

what the hell is "respectable" Sex?
Do I have to leave out the filthy stories and slurpy blow job?

As for the "provider:hobbyist ratio",
I think there will be more of both.

I'm sure somebody will OD on pussy,
and a lawsuit will ensue because "it" was too readily available.

Even in countries where it's legal and there are a whole shitload of such places. I've probably paid for sex legally in over 20 countries, but it's still not considered a "respectable" way to make a living by most.

The Church considers it a sin, feminists claim all hookers are victims" it's going to be a LONG LONG time before sex work is considered respectable.

Just to answer the hypothetical, respectability and legality would both increase the supply, but also the demand.  It is hard to say how that would affect the ratio.

But ... we are the product of our evolution, and evolution favored jealousy as a genetic line protector.   That will always be a factor in widespread acceptance (or not) of promiscuity.

Even some (not all) providers on this very forum have said that if they got into a relationship they really wouldn't want their partners to be unfaithful.  So jealousy is a pretty strong influence (results in more than a few passion murders) even for people who have had an opportunity to consider the first hand rationality of it all.

Jealousy is being ripped wide open
with intense study, and lots of authors,
 on EMOTIONS.

It is starting to sink in and be realized
as a  non productive, non positive feeling that needs to go.

I have to ask if you really think you can reason someone out of jealousy?  Now try to do that to the 4 billion people living on earth.  We have to pick our battles.

Lower prices because woman who enjoy would appear out of nowhere and do because they enjoy.  Lower price because no risk of arrest, no need to hide.

There would be girls in mall parking lots offering $20 blow jobs while your wife is inside getting her nails done.  If the wife gets back to the car early she might say: "Oh my, she was cute"

the Wife would rather have you pay $100 (more for manicure & pedicure)
for her to sit and have someone pamper her.

She'll gladly throw in a 20 for the cute girl to suck your dick
just so she doesn't have to mess up her hair.

My psychiatrist asked me if I thought sex was dirty. I said it is if you're doing it right.

I was in the industry in Australia, I was a bouncer in a legal brothel. Similar economic and cultural demographics as here. It's legal, but there is always going to be judeo/christian moralists who are closed minded and prejudicial to sex workers and their clients.

The only difference that I see is that, if done legally, prostitution does not get any legal ramifications.

If I look at the number of providers in similar size cities between Australia and USA, there are similar numbers in both places.

Also, prices are not much different as here. Cost of living is reflected in both places. Of course if you go to 3rd world countries, cost of living is lower so prices are lower.
