It's a real island paradise and affordable, but a real long plane ride.
Dirty, crowded, worst traffic, lots of touts. That said, there is a real nice brothel in Kuta, classiest place I've ever been in. New building, nice bar, lounge, waiting/selection area, beautiful spa rooms.
If you go in the back country and manage to lose the tourists you can experience some of what used to be there. I've even found a restaurant that serves dog. Otherwise, Bali is just a string of (really nice) luxury hotels. Just don't go in the water, as all the rivers (sewers) run to the ocean.
Yes, there are cities and loud, smelly Asian versions...but the place is drop dead gorgeous. The people are beautiful...some of the best seafood and fish I have ever tasted along with traditional foods. I love the art there...the place is teaming with green and flowers which seem to sway and soothe the tensions of life with gentle patience. Defintely take a ride and get out to the nature...crazy to see candy colored antique cars/convertables so American and so out of place, love that! Black sand beaches...along with snow white ones. Lots of massages with baths that include flower petals...what is not to love!

in SE Asia. Many hot providers at bargain prices. Why pay US prices by taking your own provider? I have only gone OTC when taking a provider from here, just paying her share of expenses like I would for a civvie girlfriend. Last year was an amazing year for jet-setting and travel with some fabulous blokes. Let's just say "The Big Apple" was fantastic. The "City of the Broad Shoulders" was cold but fun. "The Smoke" will always be fabulous and posh. Finally, the white sandy beaches of the DR are gorgeous.

I own 2 jetskii that a small mom and pop hotel maintains and rents them out in exchange for free room when I come over.
It's a quick 90 minutes from Ft Lauderdale. I know a few private guys that fly cargo back and forth h so I throw him $100 each way.
I did a week and rotated 3 ladies and had my favorite return.
