But if you're hobbying on credit or worse your home equity, you need serious help. If you want to save your life, come clean with a best friend or even your wife if you have to, but you have a problem that you're incapable of managing on your own.

I love to eat out somewhere lovely but I choose one or two places a month to try and stick to it otherwise I'd get a) FAT and b) poor AND fat.
You never get enough but your body at 70 can only do so much. You have more money than body so every other day is the limit for me.

To answer your question more directly, when I go on a binge, I just draw on saved funds and then when I get back to my normal hobby pace, in a couple of months it levels itself out.
Spend less than you make, I recommend that as a general philosophy.
Rent/mortage, utilities, food, etc. money should not be used for P4P.
