Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone, but I believe that the vast majority of "paying" (not amateur) porn is shot in CA.
I've had my fair share of invites to shoot "MILF" porn, and virtually all those studios were in CA. (I declined them all, it's not my thing to be exposed so publicly.)
Anyway, today, porn's virtually dead due to the explosion of free clips on the Internet.

There was some big legal case in CA about Porn being an Art and artistic impression, with acting, etc. So the argument was that it is different from straight prostitution, bla bla bla. So, it is now legal only in CA, but not in other states.
