If you could go back to the time you first started hobbying, knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself?
That way I could be hobby to see higher quality providers. You can run the scenarios on google finance.
Stick to a budget and never overspend. I can remember spending $3000/month on the hobby back in 2005. Since 1999 I have spent over $100,000 on the hobby. I stopped counting after going over the $100,000 amount.
When I started, I didn't know about TER and did little research, and I had several disappointing sessions. Since I started doing thorough research, including reading reviews (including the details), reading what providers say in the forums (when applicable), and getting direct input from other hobbyists, I've had only good experiences... with most VERY good. There were a couple of NCNSes, which proves nothing's perfect.

board with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own taste and only you know what is important to you. Different strokes for different folks. Some may tell you they frequent 3 or 4 providers each day who charge 800 an hour. Obviously, one would be wise not to take all input seriously.
TER reviews are a good resource. You will be able to read between the lines and will notice some hobbyists consistently give significantly lower or higher scores than the majority of a provider's reviewers. Decide what appeals to YOU!
Don't let a few very high or very low score reviews influence your decision whether or not to see a particular provider.
Not all high end providers are worth their asking price. Conversely, depending on your area, you may find some very reasonably priced providers who are amazing.
Some providers tell you that you are paying for their time, not any specific service. Most of these are very high end. Sometimes you may only want a rub and a tug. At other times you may want a full blown GFE/FS experience. When all you really want is a release, then why pay for more? Some amazing ladies will be able to accommodate you at different price points.
Get ready for the barrage of contrary opinions. They are, after all, like assholes. Everybody has one!

You can download a burner phone on your smartphone. I use Burner. Then you don't have to carry a different phone that you might have to explain.
Use a virtual private network so a site cannot be traced to you IP address

I USE A PAY FOR EMAIL ADDRESS. Startmail is the service I use. I can have up to 10 different aliases all replies coming to the same inbox. Plus no one is tracking you for adds and stuff. It allows you to send encrypted emails although I don't find a use for that.
These cost a little, but considering the cost of the hobby they are minimal.
Use different email addresses and user names at different sites.
Use a user name that is common so that it is lost in the many if googled
I made many mistakes and am worried about hacks. I wish I had known this when I started a few years ago
#1 - monthly budget, do not exceed under any circumstances
#2 - credit limits. When the provider calls and asks "can I borrow"...check their credit limit, and only agree if they are under it. Never allow a provider to exceed their credit limit for any reason
#1, I'd go back sooner for a repeat with girls I really liked. It's not like RL dating where you don't want to come on too strong, more like a new great restaurant you you want to eat at again and again.
#2, I'd ask for Whitelists. I never really thought about it early on, but along with review history, it gives you some credibility, especially if you take time off from the hobby and your references are harder to track down.
#3, don't give out 10/10 reviews like they're candy at Halloween. Unless the girl is vying for a spot in the local Top 10, no one's going to hate on you.
