and still had the same shit job or one like it today you would be singing a different tune. For some  people hard work simply means an early death. Trickle down and pulling ones self up by his boot straps are nice slogans but are meaningless to people who have seen both slogans for what they are; capitalist drivel.

"I have never felt this good except maybe when I got my PlayStation 3 for Christmas," Osegueda told the News-Press later.

This from the kid who shouted 'Thank you, Lord Jesus!'

I've no doubt that the kid is hard working and trying to succeed... but hey - while times are tough... he gets a playstation 3... WHERE are the priorities.... Many people - who are currently undergoing foreclosure on their homes - have a couple of Flat Screen TV's in em...

it is called sacrifice now, for the good stuff later... why is that not taught...

Raise your hands... how many of you had a shit job when you were young - just to get by and educate yourself... how many delayed starting a family to get to a level of income where you knew YOU (and NOT the government) could provide for that family?

The way that people behave shocks me... the expectations that if you are irresponsible - you have a right to everything that those who are responsible, and who do plan for the future are able to afford really makes me aware of just how far from the original intent of the founding fathers we have come.  I've never really enjoyed anything that was provided to me because someone else thought I was 'entitled' to it - or they provided to me out of a sense of guilt or pity...

But I have always enjoyed immensely those things which I earned...

than I can count. Just as I got tired of hearing my parents tell me that they walked to school 7 miles in the snow uphill each way during the Depression, my college age kids get tired of hearing about my multiple minimum wage jobs just to finance my college education. I am constantly in my kids face about accountability, responsibility, financial limits, but the sense of entitlement is rampant everywhere, especially with the young.

Yep! As soon as I was big enough to push a lawn-mower (the handle would hit me in the forehead if I bumped into something), I was making money. My kids are astonished at all the various low paying jobs I had in elementary, junior high, high school and college. Even worked full-time in a factory my last semester of my senior year of high school. But, that was a different era. My ex-wife and I struggled with a single income so she could be with the kids growing up, and they came out fine. But, what I see today is so much of the TV's, X-boxes, etc., are not always a sign of indulgence, but parents trying to preoccupy their kids, because they are both working and too tired to deal with them once they're at home. I think the root of the problem is our consumer based economy, and stagnating wages. We have a system that bombards families with ads about all the things that they absolutely must have (can't live without), though they really don't need them at all. And, at the same time, their buying power is reduced due to stagnating wages. The tragedy is that these kids have little means to contribute to the family, and gain added self-esteem, through the same means as I had.

Who said that insanity was trying the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results?  (Paraphrase, not a quote.)

I think the 12 step people came up with that phrase. Communism requires some tweaking to work out the bugs and then it will work just fine.
