I'm not too old to know the difference.  But good one, I should have seen it coming.  Lol

Anybody have experience with this service? Been trying to research their reputation, etc. and not finding too much. I'm not finding anything terrifying (cough cough theranos cough) but I'm not finding much reassurance either, from solid sources anyway. I have to take positive reviews with a grain of salt because they offer a discount to people for writing a good review. (WTF!!)

Anyways, here is my main concern: The site offers a ten test panel, 11 if you throw in the early detection HIV RNA test as opposed to the regular HIV test. Then they say choose a local location from their network of labs to perform the testing. In my area, there are many of them all over town, they seem to be working with the two biggest / most popular medical lab companies in the area. The labs themselves are very reputable, it's this service I'm not sure about.

I'm suspicious because I went to the lab near my house (which IS on the website's list of locations) and asked if I could just order the tests from them, pay them directly, and cut out the middleman. They said I certainly could do that and gave me a list of "All the tests they perform". So here's the rub: the lists don't match up. Four or five of the tests the website is trying to sell me don't seem to be offered by the lab that the website says is going to perform said tests. So, am I going to pay for something only to be told afterwards that I'm not going to get it because I chose the wrong location, or am I going to receive a falsified report?

Just FYI, I'm still considering using the service because there is actually no price difference between their panel and the STD panel offered direct from the lab. So I figure if it is legit maybe they take care of getting another lab to do the missing tests. I might have to wait a bit longer for results but so what, I want to get tested for everything I can.

Any info on these folks would be appreciated. PM if you don't want to talk about it here

Make sure that you include hepatitis during you testing. Most don't have that in standard std testing.

You can also check those local papers with escort ads in them. There are hobby friendly std testing places. I know one in the DC, the doctor had me laughing. He said "What did you tell those young gentlemen, they are scared to death and getting the tests from me now".

Right on. Yeah, the hep's are actually pretty much the main sticking point. The service is promoting checks for A, B, C but the lab itself only lists C. Sold separately from the STD panel, BTW, driving the "direct buy" cost over the price of the middleman cost. Then the lab just says HSV & HIV, doesn't specify both types of either. My guess is they check for both in each case without trying to pile up bullet points to make a sale, but rather than make assumptions, I'm just going back to the lab and sit down with someone and clear the air. Not the big deal I was making it. Lol

The one place in DC you can hear one the machines running. You see people waiting with anxiety. One year during the 2008/2009 season mono was going around bigtime in the dc area.

HA! Yeah, I guess it's a bit like waiting for the ball to find a home on the roulette wheel.

STDTestExpress is one I've used a number of times, the full panel with HIV RNA check is somewhat less than the site you listed, the site you had is somewhat cheaper if you just opt for HIV 1&2 without the RNA test...

Also when comparing sites I'd check the exact things tested - the panel count may mislead as some sites combine a few tests under the things they cover.  The STDTestExpress site I think claims an eight-panel test, STDCheck has ten - but both test for exactly the same things when you look at the tests performed.  The full panel seems pretty common across testing places so I'm pretty sure they really are testing for all of the things they say they are, even if the lab people seemed unsure about them really doing os.
