First of all, 9/11 is *NOT* the first Terrorist attack.  So by default, Dubya is making a fallacious argument here.  Remember way back in the 90s when the WTC was attempted to be blown up?

Dubya is KNOWN to have ignored HUGE amounts of sources the time before 9/11.  So to me YOUR argument is full of sh*t.  The fact that he "prevented any further terrorist attack" is POSTURING and nothing more.  Sorry, this just does not hold water ON SO MANY LEVELS.

"2) BFs quote has to do specifically with Liberty and Freedoms and were dead on to this thread. If you want to look at his presidency as a whole start a new thread and I'll be glad to comment, but right now we are talking about Gitmo prisoners. To claim this quote somehow applies just because you do not like GWB overall is over-reaching and once again hurts your credibility."

Since you are a devout Bushie (or at least it seems as such), anything I say will be given to deaf ears, but I'll give you one example (besides Gitmo): Warrentless Wiretapping.

Say what you want about it, defend it how you must, but I can guarantee that we will disagree on this.  Imho, there's no argument here, this is a clear violation of our rights and everyone from those at top down to the corporations that allowed this should be prosecuted.

"Bottom line like so many on this forum, you seem to hate GWB so much that you will gladly use a blantly double standard when comparing him to other Presidents."

Considering that Obama just started out.  How can you make this claim?  Show me one post (after Obama got elected) where I am fawning over him?  You won't find any, and I will tell you right now that I will be the first to come out and disagree and shout if he does something that I consider to be illegal and wrong.

"BTW, lots of things I did not like about GWB as well, but I hate hypocricy even worse."

Again, show me one post after the election where I have stated ANYTHING regarding Obama and that he can do no wrong.  Obama, like Dubya, is a human being.  He will make mistakes.  If he does anything (which I consider to be illegal/etc.) then you can damn bet I'll be just as critical.

You seem to misinterpret me.  I do not dislike Dubya because he is a republican/neocon whatever.  I dislike Dubya because I believe he was irresponsible, allowed many illegal things, thought that torture was OK, allowed partisan politics to take over the Justice Department, so on and so forth.  These are the reasons why I think of Dubya as (so far) the worst President in U.S. history.

It’s been a week since you left office Mr. Bush, and I want to thank you for being our president for the past 8 years. You were not perfect, but then again no one is.
Thank you for keeping us safe for the past eight years.
Thank you for sticking with your principles and ethics.
Thank you for not trashing the admin offices like predecessor did.
But most of all Mr. Bush, thank you for not lying.

That Abraham Lincoln and FDR were shitty Presidents.

Just want to make sure I understand what you are alluding to here...

If your one of your very few claims on the "good parts" of Dubya's presidency were security and lack of terrorist attacks (which is a crock of sh*t), then BF comment is very valid.

Nearly every president has done some shady things in the guise of "security over liberty," but when one of the very few things that you claim as good about a presidency is "security?"  Then, imho, the quote is quite valid.

Never said it was. The difference is the GWB actually DID SOMETHING TO RESPOND AND PROTECT US FOR SEVEN YEARS. CLINTON LET BIN LADEN GO!! THAT IS A PRIME EXAMPLES OF WHY MODERN DEMOCRATS SUCK AT PROTECTING THE COUNTRY

2) Warentless Wiretapping

WERE YOU AWARE THAT ATTCKS IN GERMANY WERE FOILED BECAUSE OF THIS TYPE OF SURVELLENCE HERE. THE TAPS WERE FOR INTERNATIONAL CALLS TO SUSPECTED COUNTRIES. SORRY IF YOU WANT US TO TRY TO FIGHT TERRORISM WITHOUT INTELLIGENCE. THAT IS A NAIVE VIEW OF THE WORLD AND THAT KIND OF THINKING IS WHAT GETS PEOPLE KILLED.

On fairness, can's say i have kept up with your posts so do not know your stance on Obama. Bottom line is I see tons of folks here dying to string up GWB while Obama continues many of the same policies. Just like to see everyone judged the same despite party affiliation.

The resons I did not care for GWB are different from yours. The man spent money like a drunken sailor and screwed the pooch on several social issues (Terry Schivo). Got to admit though, I do like the way he went after the war on Terror.

One thing I ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE YOU, if we have one more attack on American soil, you are going to see democrats back peddling so fast on this wire tapping and other issues like "detainee right" it will make your head spin.

W made people paranoid and scared for 7 years.  Started an unnecessary war while Afghanistan crumbled and Al-Queda and Taliban reemerged,

It is one of the quotes that sounds good, but the opposite is equally (or more) true.  If you give up security, you can lose liberty.

Off subject, my favorite literary example of this type of either-way-is-true is from Catch-22

Yosarian is arguing with an old Italian man who is proud of the fact that he favors who ever is winning the war.  When the Germans marched in, he stood in the street and threw roses.  When the Americans marched in he did the same thing.

Yosarian tells him he has not scruples and tells the old man, "It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees."

The old man says, "No. You have it wrong. It is better to live on your feet than die on your knees."

Both are equally true and false, depending on your perspective.

We got this economic crisis on our hands because of Bush.  And 100 years from now, the war in Iraq will be called the Oil War, because that's what Bush's intention really was all along.  The "freedom for Iraqis" was just a cover-up, or an added bonus at best.

One thing for sure.  The W in George W. Bush stands for "worst president in history"!

GaGambler2227 reads

You have a valid point. If one the other hand you mean that the war was a coverup to grab the mid east oil, I would love to see the slightest evidence to support that opinion.

The man was truly an idiot.  He was even too stupid to know he was an idiot.

An unaccomplished nobody evaluates a man who graduated from Yale, obtained an MBA from Harvard, was the governor of Texas and President of the United States for two terms as an idiot.  An idiot who didn't know he was an idiot no less. Saying you don't agree with the POTUS and even disliking the man is one thing but to call anyone who rises to the level of POTUS an idiot is quite another.  Making such a stupid statement only makes you look like a fool and destroys any shred of credibility you might have had.  But then again, maybe you realize you are making a fool of yourself and that's why you are hiding behind an alias.

If the only intent was to secure a continuous flow of oil from Iraq to the West by Bush Jr, why wasn't it secured when Bush Sr was involved? Perhaps there really was a secondary motive in going into Iraq. Ever read the Carter Doctrine, or Reagan Doctrine, or Nixon Doctrine, or Clinton Doctrine,  or even the Eisenhower Doctrine on countering  threats in the middle east, and ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products so that we in the West can maintain our economies? They all basically said that we would do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal.

GaGambler3251 reads

So at least 51 people know exactly who he is. Who the fuck are you?

Good by to Bush? Its time to move on? Bush is stupid? Bush is not stupid? Bush started an oil war? Bush is a war criminal?
Well, Bush is a capitalist. On the other hand Obama is not a capitalist. Obama is a capitalist's lackey.
