Sorry, Coach, can only recommend Single Malts...

From Scotland.  But when I do indulge in liquors from either Kentucky or Tennessee, I go with the old stand by's...JD or The Mark.

In a couple of recent threads, Bourbon, that silky brown liquid, has been mentioned.  For me, when thinking about the finer things in life, great sex, great food, and great bourbon immediately come to mind.  I know to go to TER to find those great women who specialize in making great sex a possibility.  So, why not go to TER for thoughts on great bourbon?  Recently, I have discovered Barterhouse Orphan Barrel and A Midwinter's Night Dram to go along with my staples, Blanton's and Col. EH Taylor Single Barrel.  So ladies and gentlemen...any thoughts on your favorites or something you recommend this Coach should try?  Enjoy!

I have heard of the Dickel brand.  Does it come in more than one variety/age?  Recommendation?

Its good whiskey.
Basics are Black cap and White cap. White cap is best. both are good whiskey.
I am sure they have higher priced shit but the basic white cap whiskey is nice if you like a good whiskey

If I am going to take whiskey advice, it should be from a Tennesee Gambler.  Thanks for the recommendation.  Gonna try Dickel from my favorite local watering hole

Don Julio 1942 or the like. After years of living in Mexico, good tequila is just in the blood I guess.

Generally speaking though, nine time out of ten, I am a big bold red wine lover.

any woman who likes good tequila and a big bold red is all right in my book.

I remember a Thanksgiving MANY years ago, My father dropped a bottle of Chateau Laffite Rothschild 1966 on the kitchen floored and almost cried as he watched it shatter on the tile. I didn't understand back then why he was so upset, today I might be on the floor helping him lick it up, the glass shards be damned. lol

Elaina,

You are a Chicago gal...I may have to try to turn you into a bourbon gal:)

I'm right there with you Elaina. Woman after my own heart!

Colkegan. It's what happens when a  Scott washes up in northern NM and discovers mesquite. Can't call it "scotch", but WOW, a good whiskey.

Sorry to hijack the bourbon thread...

A mellow sipping bourbon with a slight honey taste and a soft bite. Great for drinking straight.

I totally agree with that description.  Great choice!  First learned of it when watching one of my favorite shows of all time...Deadwood. Basil Hayden's was what Al Swearengen drank.  Good enough for Al...good enough for me.

A client introduced me to Basil Hayden’s. We sat on the balcony savoring our bourbon and I would take occasional puffs on his double corona. (I also tried his cigar)

than shoveling out the stables, unfastening one strap on your overalls and sitting down to a nice glass of bourbon, unless of course, you're a gentleman, then you drink single malt scotch.

I know I'm going to get shit from some of you, but really, I couldn't help myself.  Its a blessing AND a curse.

Although, it would have been clearer if he would have asked about Tequila. Everyone knows that's what gets the ladies super horny!

The finer things in life are, well, just that.  So, for me, great sex and great bourbon are things to be savored. I guess that would be my answer to your question.  You may not think that a great beverage has anything to with sex, erotica, or this hobby, but many do.  Enjoy..

I was not saying that sex and booze don't go together. I was saying that your post had nothing to do with sex, erotica, or the hobby, a clear violation of TER's policy. The quote in my post is from the top of this page. Also I'm sure you noticed the "forum police" picture which should have made my point obvious. I'm just surprised TER let your post stand.

Now if you had said, "I enjoy a good bourbon before meeting a provider (or sharing with a provider during a date). What would you recommend?" That would be topic related. :)
Back when GaG and his buddy LP were moderating this board they would sometimes edit such posts. Topics obviously unrelated to forum guidelines (and not interesting to the moderators) were removed. Topics that were not forum related but might have been interesting were sometimes edited to add a simple word or phrase to make it relevant. :)

Back in the day, I would have done exactly that, I would have added a line or two of language to bring your OP back "on topic" as this topic is one near and dear to my liver, err I mean my heart.

Technically your thread should have been removed as "off topic" but this one time I am glad it was not

But the new staff moderators have never followed through on the practice.
I also remember a "topic animosity day." :D

And he clearly mentions both "sex" and the women of TER which puts it firmly "on topic" for the GD board. I most certainly would have allowed it to stand "as is" and I 100% agree with Admin doing exactly that.

"In a couple of recent threads, Bourbon, that silky brown liquid, has been mentioned.  For me, when thinking about the finer things in life, great sex, great food, and great bourbon immediately come to mind.  I know to go to TER to find those great women who specialize in making great sex a possibility"

Here is the first paragraph of his OP, it speaks for itself. As the chief Archivist, I expect you to mark this day as possibly the first where I have disagreed with you on such a matter.

I guess the sex related part of the post was snuck in so subtly, I missed it when I read the OP. Apologies.
Do I get to keep my forum police car?

Knob Creek, hard to beat at that price point.

It's becoming more commonly stocked on the hotel bars around the DC area.

Agreed that it is a great choice at the price point.  It is probably the most requested bourbon at my local place

A woman who quotes John Lee Hooker... Verrrrrrry sexy

The brand has turned itself around. It used to be rot gut. Now they're making top shelf hooch. Mid priced (about the same as Makers or Knob) but far better IMHO.

I have always thought that a great bourbon can be found at various price points.  Haven't tried Four Roses in ages, but worth revisiting.  Thanks

I've tried and enjoyed many different Bourbons:

Blantons
Basil Hayden's
1792
Woodford Reserve
Jefferson's Reserve

I have not tried but have heard good things about:
Four Roses
Elijah Craig
Evan Williams

My staple is Makers Mark, and that's a pretty darn good staple.

Bourbon, yummy.

1792...not one I am familiar with.  Will have to check it out.  Thanks

Filibuster Bourbon is my new favorite. After aging, it's finished by resting in French wine barrels. Makes for a smooth, complex finish. Similar process to Angel's Envy, which is finished in port barrels, but Filibuster tastes better.

(No brand names mentioned, but may be friends’ Jimmy, Johnny and Jack)

--Oh, didn't look, but posted earlier along with the link to the song. Below is the lyrics, with an link to other whisky songs, I attached.. But, three of the best pleasures, as the saying goes, Whiskey, women and song--something like that :))--

So I stop in the local bar you know people,
I go to the bar, I ring my coat, I call the bartender
Said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want?

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

…But I'm sitting now at the bar,
I'm getting drunk, I'm feelin' mellow
I'm drinkin' bourbon, I'm drinkin' scotch, I'm drinkin' beer
Looked down the bar, here come the bartender
I said "Look man, come down here"
So what you want?

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer…

..Now by this time I'm plenty high,
You know when your mouth a-getting dry you're plenty high
Looked down the bar I say to my bartender
I said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want this time?
I said "Look man, a-what time is it?"
He said "The clock on the wall say three o'clock.
Last call for alcohol, so what you need?"

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer…

…One drink ain't enough Jack, you better make it three
I wanna get drunk, I'm gonna make it real clear,
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer…

Well I ain't seen [an escort] since I don't know when,
I've been drinking bourbon, whiskey, scotch and gin
Gonna get high man, I'm gonna get loose,
Need me a triple shot of that juice
Gonna get drunk, don't you have no fear
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer….

W. L. Weller 12 Year

It's a wheated bourbon that supposedly tastes a lot like Pappy Van Winkle for only $25!  It's released in the spring and sells out very quickly.

Funny thing is there was just a thread about it on another message board, which is what brought it to my attention.  ;-)

Link is to a review of it.

Thanks Debra!  I love Pappy when i can find it, but prices have gotten out of control.  Weller just went to the top of my '"must try" list...right next to you:)

Ol" Grandad.  Don't know why but I really like it.  When I am out and about, I drink "better" stuff because nobody sells the rut gut I like.  Lol!    As a matter of fact, I am on my 4th right now.

You called it "A Midwinter's Night Dram". I had actually never heard of the stuff, and I stumbled all over the rhythm of that name.

The bourbon is correctly called "A Midwinter Nights Dram". I checked on Google, and that's what the label says. Doesn't THAT sound a little more like the familiar Shakespearean title?

Granted there ought to be an apostrophe in "Nights" – but who am I to mess with a trademark.

Okay, now I'm going to have to try some. I'm dangerous on bourbon, however. One evening, during a terribly upsetting crisis in my romantic life, I visited my next-door neighbor – a sexy divorced woman who had floated my boat for years. Eager to catch up with my story, she plied me with several glasses of Jack Daniels and water. It unleashed a stream of consciousness wherein I recounted my whole sex life to her. Next day I couldn't believe I had gotten so loose (of tongue). I began to wonder if bourbon might have special powers.

And the answer to (but did you ...?) is 'no'.

Countryguy,

You are absolutely right on the doelling. It's pricey and tough to find...but so smooth.  Enjoy!

Blantons Single Barrel or Eagle Rare Single Barrel.

My all time favorite bourbon is Bakers.  The special yeast imparts a great taste to it.  With all the craft options in the market now though, I've been sampling Oat whiskeys and Wheat whiskeys and I like the smoothness.  Try Koval and High West brands

I used to get Bakers and Bookers confused.  Just had a Baker's Manhatten this weekend...excellent! Booker's is powerful stuff
