Senate Bill 999 recently passed the California Senate  It would require insurance companies to cover up to a year's supply of pills.  Studies show there are fewer unintended pregnancies when women do not have to get to a drug store every 30 or 90 days to get more pills.

Ladies who use IUD's and other long-term birth control:  Was having to get more pills every 1-3 months one of the reasons you chose another method?

 Thank you.

I've never taken birth control. I've never had issues /w acne, PMS, etc., and I'd just rather not mess with my hormones... especially when condoms work just fine :)

I've never been so lazy that I can't make it to the drugstore to buy more condoms, and I can't imagine why it would be any more difficult for a woman to pick up some pills she'd previously ordered.

However, for me it's my livelihood... for other women, for whom condoms/pills don't assume that same importance, maybe they figure that one day off the routine won't make a difference.

Or maybe it's a passive-aggressive thing. I mean, if a woman 'accidentally' can't manage to pick up the birth control... she should know what might happen.

+1...my tubes are tied anyway so i do not have to worry about taking something that could screw with my hormone levels

I use birth control with my s/o because I won't use condoms. Seems impersonal and I'm def not lazy. So I get that reminder every month to go get my monthly free pills. I think it's great.

The full 12 month access seems ok

I have a genetic predisposition to breast cancer, and wanted a non estrogen based birth control. I have to say for other ladies out there.... I love my Mirena!! No bad side effects for me, and only good ones. I could see where this would be so much easier for many women on the pill though, and wish it had been available when I was still taking a daily pill.

...when I needed birth control. The hormone levels seemed to fit me nicely (my breasts got bigger but I didn't gain any weight elsewhere), whereas with IUDs and injections I have many friends who have had adverse effects.

BUT I think the inconvenience of having to go back to the pharmacy every three months could definitely be a reason to switch to another method. On top of that, having to remember to take a pill every day was a bit of a hassle. It was another item to carry in my purse, just in case, and another reason to step away from my desk at work when the reminder alarm went off.

"It's Easier Being a Male"....SO funny (and true)
