tough choice

The real tough choice is whether you want your activities to become public.  The police will in most cases investigate complaints. It would be unusual for them to also go after the complainant for illegal activities, at least in this day and age.

Is it true That if you get hurt by (one of your clients or a provider you went to go see)and go to the police, will they shoo you off like they don't care?I mean this is illegal activity so why would they care? But are the cops obligated to help you out if you get hurt during illegal activities?

If you got hurt physically by somebody else it would be at least assault and/or battery which are serious charges. The cops definitely will NOT ignore that just because you two were supposedly doing something illegal (but not that serious) such as prostitution activities.

That is if the cops you get are good decent cops and doing the jobs they are supposed to do in a professional manner.

OTH who knows what kind of cops one get in some backwater uncivilized small towns in the South or Bible belt states.

The police have to take all crimes seriously, no matter what the circumstance are.
Just because you are an escort does not give anyone the right to assaulted you.

The big problem is you have to admit to what was going on, and you may have to show up in court to testify against the person who assaulted you.  Not sure but if you admit to a crime, you may end up arrested to even if you are the victim.
(personally I don't think an DA would do that, wouldn't look good for them to arrest a victim of of abuse)

This is why most people don't want to do report these crimes. How do you explain to family and friends about what happened to you.

This is the reason why Sex worker are easy target for abuse.

I hope this is just a hypothetical question and nothing bad has happened to you

on what happens.  If it is just that a guy roughed you up a little then you really have no recourse, same if a man forces you to have unprotected sex on a date again you are getting paid for the sex the other LE may or may not allow you to even press charges about.  I know many ladies that just suck it up.  I knew 1 very reputable that was forcibly sodomized bare by a client and she had no recourse, got her tests done and was extra careful after that.

HOWEVER, with that said....  If you are brutalized then you may.  I have heard of girls being locked up in attics jumping off the roof naked to get away, beaten so badly that both eyes had swollen shut, tied to beds and left there for days.  Things like this, you absolutely should goto the cops.  Even if a guy comes in and beats you then leaves, call the cops and give them everything you have on him.  The cops do realize that this type of person is very likely to do it over and over again and will overlook what you do even if you are 100% straight with them, they will thank you fr having the courage to report it.

Minor or things that could potentially be seen as what the guy paid for or even calling them to say a client robbed you, not probably going to work in your favor..

Guy goes to see a hooker. It's a setup. Several of her male friends jump him, beat and rob him.

He goes to the police and they are able to arrest the girl and guys on multiple charges.

The guy gets busted for patronizing a prostitute. First offense is a misdemeanor. Still has name was in the papers.

A physical attack (if that's what you're talking about) is a physical attack no matter how it happened.  I am under the impression that law enforcement is obligated to handle all calls.

It's touchy how one goes about reporting the incident to authorities in this industry.  Maybe a provider can say a boyfriend  assaulted her. I don't know.  I wish I had a better answer.

D.

Sometimes.

A few months ago, in Massachusetts, a couple of guys were making appts and then robbing the Providers. I don't recall if there were physical assaults. There was certainly a THREAT of violence. One Provider immediately called the police, gave them descriptions and even their car description. The cops caught the guys based on her quick action and cooperation. These crimes took place in hotels/motels and there was security video and other evidence available. (As I recall, they were using service entrances, service elevators and less public corridors but still under surveillance.)

If you are asking about a real event, don't delay to make a report. Evidence has to be collected and secured ASAP. The longer you delay, the less credible you might seem. If you feel the need, reach out to a legal service for a brief consultation. You don't need the OJ Simpson Dream Team but just a one-hour consult which many lawyers offer for a very low fee or even for free.

(I think OP is in the Chicago area. Can anyone from there recommend a website or TV ad or even the local Law Student Free Legal Services clinics?)

Good luck.

Without any evidence other than a he said/she said, filing a complaint may be difficult to get action on.

If you were to file a complaint against some john, when indeed your loser BF beat the shit out of you, that would likely blow up in your face.

Good luck.

There was a case in Chicago recently (just last year) where a lady who admitted to being a prostitute went to the police after being raped.  And they arrested the guy!!!

So although there absolutely have been cases where the police not only failed to pursue the rapist, they harassed or even arrested the rape victim, this case is a sign that things may be changing for the better!

There are good cops and bad cops just like anything in life.
As a former big city detective it wasn't my job to judge the accuser, that's what the courts are for.
And people in all walks of life get hurt every day.
You investigate the claim, treat each victim with as much dignity as you'd like to see a family member get and then turn it over to the DA
The only problem a provider would have, unless there are physical marks on her, is a he said/ she said, just like in domestic disturbances.
But it was my experience that in most cases the prostitute got the benefit of the doubt. Why? Because rarely is she looking for trouble or limelight. So when she files a complaint she's usually legit

When I called 911 they were right there. And they worked hard for like a month to catch the guy.

was in a bible belt state and they knew i was a hooker.

they will realize that a man who physically assaulted one woman is going to go on to assault others.  When it comes to getting the nut jobs off the streets, everyone is usually in agreement, no matter what the circumstances were.
