We will be lucky if we advance out of our group. England, Slovenia and Algeria are not pushovers.

Sure we did well at last year's Confederations Cup in South Africa but most teams played their "B" teams and we played our "A" team.

Did you see how we played in the qualifiers with our "A" team against the likes of Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago. We were not that impressive and struggled to beat them.

World Cup play. Isn't Brazil and Argentina favored this time round?

Few weeks ago they lost to Brazil in a tournament in the final don't forget winter Olympics peace my brother who you pick colts ravens ironic how colts left baltimore

Argentina with "loose cannon" Maradona as coach struggled to qualify but I suspect they should right the ship.

As far as favorites go, I think the usual suspects are primed for another run.

Brazil
Argentina
Italy
England
Germany
Holland
Spain

Sleepers:

Portugal
France
Ivory Coast / Ghana / Cameroon / Nigeria
Mexico

As far as USA goes, if we advance to the second round we should be happy. We could get lucky after that like any other team. We really need a good qualified coach like a Guus Hiddink. Too bad the local management is like some NFL teams and more concerned about their own power rather than success on the field. Sunil Gulati are you listening?

The commentators brought up some teams that weren't usually considered threats of any sort.

Might have been portugal. Chile maybe

Virtually every team in the WC is good and we will be lucky to get out of our group.  But don't underestimate CONCACAF and the fact that we also beat #1 Spain last year (and NOT their B team either), plus we've been punishing Mexico for the past decade and they can go toe to toe with anybody too.

We're fielding the best team in our history, save the tragic injury to Davies...  Barring any injuries to Donovan, we go to the sweet 16 at least.

I agree totally, we have a great team I follow soccer I watch game. A lot American who don't follow soccer have no cluei could have not said Better myself thank you

Spain did not start 2 or 3 players that would normally be in the starting lineup. That might have made a difference.

CONCACAF is a rough and tumble region, difficult to play on the road but games against lesser opponents we should be able to win comfortably at home.

I am not sure this is the best team we are going to field in our history, here is why. The 2002 WC team was pretty good. It was full of experienced veterans; we beat very good Portuguese and Mexican teams; and gave the Germans a good fight as well in the quarterfinals.

I am not sold on Howard in goal yet. Unless Keller or Friedel come out of retirement, he is the best we have now.

Donovan has usually struggled during the World Cup, maybe this year will be his coming out party.

For the U.S. to do well this year, we must tighten the screws on defense and stop giving up early goals to start the game or coming out of the half. Donovan needs to breakout on the counter-attack more and get the ball to a guy like Altidore who needs to finish.

I am looking forward to this June, may even try and snag some tickets and go to SA. I hope we do well and maybe pleasantly surprised by our performance. The defensive lapses, relative youth and inexperience concern me though.
