Reading this string reminded me of a movie called Hysteria.  It's a semi-true story of how the vibrator was invented wrapped inside a love story.  Back in Victorian times all sorts of female issues were labeled hysteria.  The women with these "issues" would go see a doctor who would massage their vaginas to relieve their hysteria.  A young doctor joins a clinic where hysteria is treated.  He soon develops carpal tunnel from massaging vaginas all day and that leads to him and a friend to invent the first crude vibrator.  It's a good movie, highly recommend.
