I'll be dead by then.

Just read this article about the Nordstrom closing.

Crazy, right?

I was never the biggest fan of that mall anyway due to it's location and odd layout but the Nordstrom closing empties about 10% of that place. Times be changing! Just thought I would share this, I thought it was interesting.

Once it's vacated, the owners of the mall have some ideas on how to fill the empty space.

One was as a brewery/pub/restaurant.

Another was convert them into "luxury" apartments.

And ages before they are out.
I didn't notice if the article mentioned if Nordstrom was riding out the end of the lease or if they were planning to break the lease. I am hoping they will be there for a few months anyway.

Ladies: this could mean some serious store closing sales! I guess guys too, haha.

The numbers never worked. Last time I was down there I was surprised how run down it looked. Just look around. Retail vacancies sure look high. Internet BC and weak economy.

that it is closing.  I walk between 8-10 miles in the downtown/Shelter Island area during the weekends and typically stop at Nordstroms for the clean restrooms if in the vicinity.  Anyways I agree that it is not an ideal mall with a confusing layout.  Thank you for sharing

But always enjoys walking around wasting time before a movie or after a show.   Real estate will never be vacant long downtown. ?.

Looks like the ideal time for some of our ladies to buy lingerie and shoes.

I'm disappointed Nordstrom's is closing:( I thought Horton Placa was trying to be nicer, they should just get rid of that old movie theater and bad food court instead!

It would seem that there are enough residents, visitors, and workers nearby to support the store, but the Fashion Valley and UTC stores are much grander.  I almost moved to downtown SD in 2013-14.  I'd miss the store if I had.

Aww. Still remember the first year , I went to that mall. Iit was 1988.

Nordy's and other stores like it are not building any more large stores and going online with a different brick and mortar retail model.
