I got a phone call from a woman yesterday afternoon on my work phone. Her name was "Amanda" and the number was 805-391-4631.
She claimed she was from some women's center from my county/area and she was asking if I needed any assistance such as clothing, food, shelter or to be whisked away from a dangerous situation.
All I said was "I appreciate this and all but I don't know you so please don't call me again."
A bit later I got curious. 805 is not an area code where I live so I called it back and it was a Google Voice number.
What kinda of "woman's center" has a fake number??

Google the number. I question their tactics. Also how did they find you? Maybe someone gave it to them because they though you were being trafficked, I don't know. IMHO you made the correct call. Besides, they are in Ashville.
If you Google the number it comes back as Sufficient Grace Outreach in Asheville, NC
99% sure you were contacted by a religious social ministry that reaches out to women in the sex trade....strippers....providers [ though that it not a term they would use].....etc
Their assumption is all women that are in the sex worker's trade are somehow victims of others or trapped by their bad choices.
In some cases they are on target. There are ladies being traffic. There are ladies desperate for help and hope for rescue. In these circumstances organizations like the one that contacted you do a lot of good. So hooray for them !
The prob is they live in a black & white world and given a chance would surpress our freedoms to fit us all in the perfect world of their narrow perceptions. It is beyond their comprehension that consenting adults sometimes choose and have every right to embace a lifestyle different from the perceived norm.
If you are safe and happy simply send them the thanks but no thanks reply . Or best yet , no reply at all. If you or anyone reading this thread genuinely need help , by all means contact them or similar organizations
