Did anyone here check out the new TV show on Starz, The Girlfriend Experience? What did you think of it? I had pretty high hopes for it as the main character is bright and in control of her life. I haven't finished it yet, but the main character is so aloof, it really doesn't seem very GFE to me at all. It's hard to imagine someone so cold and clinical being very successful. The show seemed to be more of a character study than a show about our secret world.

I still prefer the Secret Diary of a Call Girl with Billie Piper. Even though I was disappointed they didn't make her more capable (on the show, they portrayed her as not really being able to get a good job whereas the blog was written by a PhD who was quite employable), her character was warm and fun.

Do any of the portrayed experiences match real life experiences? Are there other shows that do a better job of showing this world?

The further episodes you watch it gets better, personally I'm able to relate to the career outside of providing. The fear of people finding out and etc, it does get better into each episode:)

and am through about 7 episodes. I agree that she comes across as very aloof. Maybe that's what her high power businessmen clients prefer LOL. Definitely more of a character study than an expose.  without giving any spoilers, she does break from the clinical a few times, but always returns and definitely doesn't take crap from anyone

man it was boring, just in terms of dramatic pacing and (not) enthralling characters.

i've said elsewhere, if the hobby was as boring as the show, i would have stopped years ago!  lol!

secret diary of a call girl was better.

...but everything I've read about it shares the complaint that the lead character is way too aloof and detached to be an effective provider. I can't imagine many hobbyists having that preference. I think this show is just fitting itself into the preconceived notions that people outside the hobby have.

ends up destroying a lot of hobby careers.  Wives are going to get hooked on this show because of the salacious subject matter, and will start noticing things their husband might be doing to cover up his hobbying where they wouldn't have given it a second thought before this show.

Or could be more wilds getting in to the biz.?

few hobby careers damaged, but more suspicion of young ladies living well beyond their means, having unusual travel habits, etc...

The wives will watch Outlander instead on the same network; the lead male character is eye candy for the ladies, and it has more passionate sex scenes (it's essentially an onscreen romance novel).

I thought I read somewhere that the main lady was Elvis and Priscilla Presley daughter ?
