I agree. Dating is messy, time consuming, and some of us simply aren't very good at relationships.

Having said that...there is something to be said for finding someone you can actually tolerate being around, building a foundation and having a partner who is more than instant gratification.

It's funny I told a girl the other day I still hobby because I'm broken. What 32 do you know who can pick up the prettiest girl in Webster Hall and not pay a penny. Yet I feel more comfortable paying a provider with money I can't afford.

I guess my reasoning is searching for that 1.  That 1 that can grant me total fulfillment of everything that I am looking for in a provider. By that I mean, someone willing to let go of the normal provider barriers of "it's just a job" or "if I show too much emotion or I am too friendly then I may lead him on." I am a mature male and I understand that this is an arrangement and nothing more, but that is hard to come by.  I agree that dating is draining.  I enjoy the thrill of meeting someone new, the rush of opening the door to my fantasy, and hobbying is very convenient.   Maybe TMI, lol, but thats my reasoning.

The thing that keeps me in the hobby is that all the civies of the world know what you know.

The hobby is very, very nice. I do it for all the reasons you've listed and more. I am a very selfish person and prefer to do most things alone. However occasionally I will feel lonely and will want someone I can associate briefly with then have the option of never seeing them ever again.  

Right now I'm pretty young so a family is the last thing I want. I'm male so my dating value tends to go up over time, so why rush it? But for a woman who becomes more and more infertile after her 30s, she has to sort of make the choice of having kids or not sooner.  

Chivalry was always dead for the 20 year old chick who only dates 40 year old studs. People usually turn into assholes when given choice and power.

In this day and age, a woman should never choose to rely solely on a man. Always make your own money even when you are with a guy.  

Hobbying in my observation has always been a cheaper alternative to marriage if all you want out of a marriage is sex. However marriage has been ingrained into my head since I was a toddler so I will eventually get married for the pleasures of conformity.

Thrill of the chase!

Seems that the "chase" is different for most.. but I like the adrenaline rush I get when I'm gonna meet someine new. There is also the chase of great sex! First things first, my wife is my lifetime friend, highschool sweetheart and all. But I'm lucky if we do it more than five times in any given year.
