Yes. Military, Peace Corps or AmeriCorps.

Community service in return for college tuition. Then there was the GI bill. We have had these opportunities for a long time but it was never compulsory.

Isreal has a 2 yr hitch as well as Russia. Talking to other soldiers from these countries they are poorly run programs and little more than temporary slavery. As is anything "compulsory" by its very nature.

It should be part of the education system. Sort of a get acquainted with reality kind of thing.

Everyone who calls themselves a citizen should give something to their country. There is no reason every 18 year old cannot give 2 years towards building the country they will live in forthe rest of their lives. Building infrastructure, roads, bridges, schools. Working in hospitals, supporting the police and fire depts - there is no shortage of contributions they can make towards building a better America. It doesn't have to be military service.

Of course the fat lazy whiners in the crowd, the ones with true sense of entitlement will discount the idea out of hand = but they are the true welfare queens of our country, always holding their hands out to get what they can but giving nothing back.

And yes, this should be rewarded with educational opportunity - damn, this sounds really familiar - damn near exactly what Obama has been talking about.

With that being said how can the government tell me that I am required to service our servants? That's just another form of slaving but more modern way in this day and age.

Compulsory National Service, No.  Any service must be optional, not compulsory.
 
But offering a college program in return for some National Service, yes.

I think the American citizenry already had their compulsory National Service thrust upon them with the bailout swindle.

Patriotism in this country and others has been the strongest when there has been compulsory national service but these societies had governments that more or less served the people. Now the nation has been ruined by traitors.

I'll be damned if I will help to fix up the problems that their policies have helped to create. Urban renewal indeed, the urban areas wouldn't need to be revived if the populations their hadn't been replaced through policies shoved down the majorities throat by those in power.

I don't have really anything to say about the current generation, of which I am a part. Had their elders not been so cowardly and ignorant back in the 70's and had they done what was necessary to put down the Communist revolutionaries then they would not have to deal with the current system where the government,schools,and media are all under the control of America's enemies. They have been taught to be individuals and not to have any real love of nation. They have been debased and made to feel guilty for the deeds of their ancestors, in the case of the majority at least.

Had those adults in the 60's and 70's had any sense and some courage to stand up against the filth that took our nation away perhaps the youth wouldn't be the way it is now. That generation were the ones that gave away America in much the same way the generation before let the Commies take hold of Europe.

The youth of today should have even more disrespect for those before them because, especially for the majority, they gave away their birthright to lead America as the founders had explicitly intended them to.

the more I am for unplugging the earphones, limiting access to electronic comms of all sorts, and demanding that we bring back the govenment alphabet soup of services... CCC, WPA etc.  my dad, and somewhere I wrote that he is one of my heroes, learned about college, and something other than farms by going into the CCC.  so it is not all bad...

My only concern is - is there enough things to do... that we could get all the yuts... and keep the occupied? in rewarding and meaningful manners... as to the value to this country....

many of the older forests, and parks were "spruced up" by these programs... and if you ever skiied on mount Hood, or for that matter seen the movie (the version with Jack Nicholson) the Shining... well, you've witnessed one of their (IMHO) greatest works, the ski lodge on Mt. Hood...

as I say, not all bad, sure beats what I see... kids who killed a 30 something year old man... only for sport.

she should be required to work for two years in a brothel.  By the time her two year tour is finished she will be an expert on how to satisfy a man.  They will undoubtedly make better wives than the spoiled princess we have now. If she is too ugly, she will have to work construction or some other job out of public view.
