that if you have given TER information that you did not want to risk - then that boat has already sailed and not participating further is not going to affect any risk you might have...

The Ashley Madison hack was more than likely an inside job. Some sources believe that it was, in fact, an inside job. So, it wasn't technically a hack.  It was an internal security breech.  

Those that are being outed used their real work and/or personal emails. They used real credit cards. If you're going to do clandestine shit, then be clandestine. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail. All free. All NOT your work or personal email addresses.  

Not that it necessarily matters where servers are, as servers can be hacked anywhere, but AM's servers were set up in Canada because AM is a legal business.  This site's servers are harbored in Germany, and it uses a third party CC processor that isn't affiliated with the site. TER doesn't have your cc info; the cc processor does.  

The reality of the situation is, if someone wanted to, this site could definitely be hacked.  Just like P411 could be hacked. Or Date-Check. Or Amazon. Or Target.  It's all hackable because its all online. and you know what? There's not really anything you can do about it.  

I mean, you could start browsing from Tor to protect your IP address and randomize it. Using anonymous email addresses helps too.  But no system, no online presence, has proven unhackable. Shit; there are a significant number of people who have pacemakers connected to the internet for realtime feedback recording. They should be worried about being hacked. Because you know, death.  

But lets be honest, here. What benefit would a hacker glean from fucking with someone's pacemaker program? What benefit would they glean from hacking TER databases?  Records of a bunch of johns with fake names and a bunch of hookers with monikers arguing with each other over screening practices and ISOs asking for the "best bang for your buck"?  Reviews that read anywhere from 6th grade essays to Penthouse Forum fantasies? There's nothing "juicy" here.  There's nothing here that is socially valuable to the population at large. AM's databases were OVERFLOWING with social currency.  

So, if you want to leave, go for it. But really, your reaction is exactly that; a reaction.  It's not precautionary. Unless you've been taking the necessary steps to protect yourself as best you can, there is more data on you than you can ever fathom.  And you know what? No one truly cares.

I certainly don't lose any sleep; i'm not important enough to lose sleep over something like the AM hack, and quite frankly, unless you're secretly a Duggar, or a government official that used your work email to sign up for TER, you're not important enough for media ridicule or outing either.
