If you don't like to be refered to as selling your body for sex, then pick a different profession. And if you think this line of work is harmless and has no harmful effects, you're kidding yourself. Prositution, whether legal or not, and what verbiage you use to describe it, always cheapens and demeans the woman and makes her a target for abuse and mistreatment, and worse. And, of, course, there are long-term physcological effects on top of everyhing else. So the idea that prostitution is simply a service provided like a massage is complete nonsense.

The same argument could be applied to marriage. It often demeans the woman, making her a target for abuse and mistreatment. I assume such treatment would have long-term psychological effects.

How does marriage demean women? When women get married they automatically get the rights to half of their husband's wealth.

Women are getting paid either way. ;)

May have no immediate practical importance, but a good first step to change the view if sex work as one of universal near slavery engaged in by poor women unable to give meaningful consent..

AND for a long time in most parts of the world, women WERE slaves to their husbands. We were actual property with almost no rights. How silly of that person to bring marriage into an argument like this.

I've seen women and men guilted by right wing conservatives religious type into marriage and into becoming child factories - "arranged" marriages by persuasion and guilt.  When they said no, they were accused of being abused as a child, selfish, and ungodly. Most who fell for it were divorced with two years. And abused.

And love was not about feelings, but choice. If you broke up because there was no chemistry you were being selfish.

No thanks. I'll take P4P after slavery any day.

Wasn't that a pro-choice slogan at one point?  It seems even more apropos to sex work. It should be a woman's choice what to do with her own body. And I think it's insulting and downright sexist to prevent a woman from selling the one service that everyone has that could make her enough money to completely change her socioeconomic situation.
