Statistically, "pimps" are more often than not women; they're business managers, deal with advertisement, booking, security, providing safe space, and other things (if they're doing their jobs correctly).

Of course, there are pimps, both men and women, that extort and harm women. Of course there are.

But let's face it.  Lot's of providers get in on the side-hustles that present themselves in this industry. from booking to writing ads to renting incalls. Hell, escort "agencies" are technically pimps.  Ladies don't make the rate that's advertised, and in return, the agency takes care of advertising, scheduling, incall space, etc.

There are many many reasons a person would choose to have certain aspects of her business handled by other people.  tons of women use bookers and handlers.

Just wondering what the purpose of a pimp is today and even pre-internet days?

To my knowledge, it is about providing some sort of protection like a body guard? I don't see how it could help that much unless it happens after the fact or if they want to catch a guy that runs without paying, but even then how often does that happen?

I could see how they could screen clients but that's more like an agency then correct?
If its some GF/BF of the provider doing the screening and getting a cut are they considered a 'pimp'?

great movie, ever seen it? Keitel is The pimp & Jodie Foster the hooker.

In all seriousness, maybe pimp = bail money?

What do I know? I' m just a John...

that one out, I honestly haven't seen it before...

The only "Pimp movies" I've seen are Hustle & Flow (He was a broke pimp) & The Mack (I love that movie)...

Kills me how under-utilized he is these days.  If you haven't seen City Of Industry, go rent it right now; great, great film.

...clothier of pimps.  You're telling me you never heard of Leroy "I Got" Bank?

I honestly never heard of him lol..

taking care of mundane real world issues while treating his charges respectfully.

In real life, they are often a gangster and extortionist who oppressed the shit out of people.

Here's an example of the former at least.

I've actually become pretty good friends with an ex pimp/drug dealer, quite by accident. He actually became a pimp without even trying. He was approached by a lady who was in need of protection. She was getting beat up and robbed by some of the john's she picked up. He had enough street cred that if it was known she was his girl, NOBODY was going to fuck with her. And if she had a john who wanted some weed or blow, he was the supplier. So their association was beneficial for both of them. He started with her, and through her, made similar arrangements with 4 more girls. They all rented a house together, and everyone chipped in a cut of their hustle to cover expenses. Understand these ladies were more the "street walker" variety of escort. Think no screening, BBFS, bait & switch, occasionally flat out robbing john's....REALLY risky shit. And all of them were party girls who used drugs. These ladies definitely needed to be protected by someone. They just happened to pick him. And I guess it goes without saying, he was fucking all of them. He's often told me he got to live a rich man's life on a poor man's salary. He was just your average street hustler who had this opportunity fall in his lap. We've definitely had some interesting conversations, and he's one of only two friends who knows about my hobby life. Based on the stories he's shared with me, the sex world can be a very dark place when drugs are involved. All kinds of crazy shit goes down. For them, it all spiraled out of control as their addictions grew. It finally all fell apart. Some of the ladies left, some went to jail, one was murdered. He got out and went straight. So to answer your question, he provided a home and protection for these ladies, and supplied them and their clients with drugs.

Prostitutes don't hire pimps, it isn't a beneficial relationship in that way.  Pimps find malleable "product" and Stockholm syndrome them into being slaves.  It isn't an arm's length transaction of equals, there is no purpose, for streetwalkers of yore or pimped girls today.

(I'm using pimp in the traditional sense.  Agencies, madams, etc are pimps in some defintions, as per Miss Erin Black. :) )
