considering there were many people who gave good reasons not to pass the bill as it is and at this time, I would suggest that perhaps there was tunnel vision/hearing on the behalf of all but three Representatives.
It is sad that even people who(ahem, rather, may) participate in this activity and/or are supposed to represent thier constituants, can not see a more progressive and positive way of addressing this issue.
I could go on and on with reasons why this is a ridiculus bill but then I would be preaching to the choir.

What will be the results of this new status, if it is passed? There will be increased overhead for all the ladies and you know what that means....
soooo I think there may be a few hobbyists that may even agree with Wren's intitial reaction.
Not to be disrespectful to anyone but I need to express my two cents.

I am just really angry and sad that I found a profession I really love - and that the opportunity to work in peace, without the threat of prosecution, is being taken away from me.

As some of you know...I could go on and on...but I have a friend stopping in and am going go do, what I love to do.....

What's stupid for some might not be so for others. I'm not supporting a position either way but rather addressing your blanket statement that politicians are stupid.

While I might agree that some politicians are stupid but that's a matter of opinion.

State your arguments for why you think they are stupid rather than issuing a non-justified generalization.

;)

Share arguments on why politicians are stupid!!! We would need a whole other website just for that. The fact that politicians are stupid can be stipulated to without argument. Bridges to nowhere, using taxpayer money to pay for services for criminal aliens, proposed Obmacare, reverse discrimination policies that shakedown business (affirmative action) ect are just a few examples.
Unfortunately the RI law has come under scrutiny by these same pinheads due to a comming together of events starting with the craigslist killer and campaingning from Bill O'Reilly.  Campaigning is the ultimate word here as these stupid, predatory, self promoting politicians see an opportuity to promote themselves.
My suggestion is you contact all the providers in RI to get contact info now to establish a relationship with them before that becomes more dangerous as LE swoops in to show they are enforcing the law

The politicians who are trying to pass the law are perhaps not stupid but are absolutely not thinking of the whole picture.

An Assistant Attorney General stated that their main reason for pushing for the law is "Rhode Island should not be the only state in the country, outside of certain counties in Nevada to support indoor prostitution." What?? So if every other state jumped off a bridge would RI too?

The RI economy is doing pretty cruddy right now and banning it will mean a pretty hard blow to the hospitality industry here. Not to mention there has to be something said for a woman being able to report a violent crime that happens in a behind closed door date. Had the law been different when that CL Killer was on the loose that woman in RI may not have reported it and it may have gone unsolved for longer.

In my opinion they have bigger things to worry about. If a girl is causing trouble then yes there should be consequences and there are under other laws but some of us are not trouble makers and just trying to get by by doing what we enjoy doing.

I will be more than happy to share why *I* think they are "stupid".

In a state with:

1. 13% unemployment
2. $300M+ budget deficit
3. State employees who refuse to offer givebacks on extremely generous medical and pension benefits
4. Roads literally crumbling apart (see I-95 Pawtucket bridge; Rt 24 bridge, etc, etc)

....to name a few, the GA has decided that indoor prostitution has become the most pressing issue facing the state.

A few other things they *might* want to concentrate on instead:

1. Finding creative ways to encourage existing businesses to expand and lure new companies to the state by solving the overall exorbitant cost of doing business (i.e. taxes, utility costs, insurance, etc)
2. Tackling the above mentioned issue of runaway medical and pension costs for state employees
3. Working with the cities and towns to consolidate services (i.e. police, fire, schools, etc).

Shall I go on?

Yes - this is political in nature and belongs in that forum, but I could not ignore the bait you set.

Until the RIGA matures, I will continue to refer to them as "stupid" as well.  If stupid doesn't work, how about: moronic; brainless; foolish; mindless; shortsighted?

In case you may not realize it (Darwin Award Candidate?) the ONLY "job" ANY politician has is to get re-elected - period!! In order to do accomplish that task they will bend in as many ways as the wind(s) will blow in order to please as many voters as possible! Part of the problem (maybe the biggest problem) is that far too many "citizens" who do not contribute anything to the society they so dearly benefit from have the same vote as anyone else in this country. The give away programs abound and keep growing faster than a downhill rolling snowball and the burden for all these programs fall on the shoulders of the taxpayers.

Perhaps we (this country) should start teaching HISTORY in our schools so that more people just might open their eyes and see that history does repeat itself - especially when it (and it's pitfalls) are ignored!

It's not "fuzzy" logic! (or rocket science for that matter) :-)

I'm afraid the politians are afraid of the truth.  The Sex Slavery BS has been thrown out there as an excuse to change the law.  Unfortunately the high profile of the AMPs has really been a thorn in the side of LE.  (According to story in ProJo at the time, AMP raided...  all workers were doing so voluntarily.  Cited the place for building code violations.)
The politicos have dragged their feet on this about as long as possible.  I hope my Favs do not leave town.
