Lock

Most hotel doors have a deadbolt lock, plus a latch on the door to prevent anyone from entering.

Gents and ladies have you ever been in a hotel with the do not disturb sign on the door and housekeeping still comes in?
I thought a do not disturb sign on the door means just that do not disturb.
Me and gent were having a great time thought we heard a noise at the door or in the hallway wasn't quite sure.
A very short time later we hear the click of the door being opened and housekeeping is proceeding to walk in.
The gent and I are both yelling "No we are okay come back later."
Evidently the maid did not hear us but by the time she did she got quite the eyeful.lol
She immediately apologized and rushed out the door.

Has this happened to anyone else?Or was this just an off thing?
I remember another incident where the do not disturb sign was on the door but a gent and I had ordered room service.
Anyone knows room service takes awhile to get your food we decided to have some fun while waiting.
Apparently we got carried away with the time. Some time passes the gent and I are wondering where is the food we are hungry?lol
We walk out into the living room and are amazed room service did not knock just came in with the food and left never said a word.lol
After being surprised we shared a good laugh over a meal but we both thought that was pretty weird.

they are not allowed to come in period without your permission. It is assumed that they have that when cleaning IF the DND sign is not out.

I'd change hotels if that ever happened to me and I'd make a scene for a refund. Not ok and against the law.

Recently I was at a hotel and was sleeping at 10pm. I wake up to the knocking at other doors. Then suddenly the maid walks in. I shoved her out the door and almost slammed the door on her arm. She claims she was checking to make sure the room was clean AT 10pm at night!!! She showed me her list and my room wasn't on it. I left the next morning and lost out on 4 days that I had prepaid. They refused to give me a refund and now they can enjoy my anger. Who the hell checks to make sure rooms got clean at 10pm at night??? Yes, she really was seeing if rooms were clean but it doesn't matter. It is not ok.

It is not ok for them to do that and any good place knows not to. I don't stand for that shit. It is against the law without your permission. I know you can call it in, but seriously you don't want to. All you can do is bitch and ask for a refund, leave nasty reviews, or leave. Got to think of the big picture, know what I mean?

No matter what, IMHO, leave. Ask for a refund or give bad reviews... but at the end of the day, just leave.

Obviously this has happened to me too, several times as a matter of fact. I don't always make a big deal out of it, but when it happens more than once, or if the maids insist on knocking on my door despite the "no molesto" sign being left on the door, I will call downstairs and give them an earful as well, especially if I am nursing a hangover.

Maid makes a mistake. You forfeit the four days you prepaid. The front desk crew got to enjoy your angry hooker routine when you threw a fit and left. LOL, I'm beginning to understand why you receive some of the scores you get.

The word "discretion" should be a major part of your vocabulary. That is thinking about the big picture.

My experience is when a hotel makes a mistake, a polite request for some form of compensation is usually agreed to.

Some of us don't walk around acting like a hooker and know how to be discrete. It was a legitimate complaint and at 10pm at night, there is no excuse. Although there is some truth to what you said, it is pretty stupid to continue staying there with practices such as that.

Why are you being nasty and taking pot shots at me? Is it your practice to be mean when others haven't done or said anything mean to you?

Without permission, especially late at night. I like this little spitfire, I think she is the type of person that tries to do the right things, so if she feels wronged, it cuts a little deep. Just a guess?

you did not go to the right person...........there is someone up their chain of supervision.........who is in a position of responsibility to give you a full refund...........plus a comp for your next visit.

This did NOT end right..............never in Las Vegas............with the proper demeanor and a courteous approach..........I have gotten free meals in expensive restaurants and more............when I did not receive service at or above the level I was paying for.

Granted, my hotels of choice are Aria, Vdara, and Signature there, but no.  Same applies in NYC, DC, and just about everywhere else.  I would complain to hotel management if this ever did happen, and to AMEX as well.

As for room service coming to our room during interludes on multi-hours, we've been in robes a few times, but they didn't bat an eye.

I always do that when I have a client ... They can't use their key and slip past that.

Hooking 101.

Yes!  I don't know why, but your post reminded me of a scene from one of my favorite movies...

when you go for ice anymore. LOL.

Honestly Tabu, the guys should be aware enough to double-check the locks, too!

Provider I see quite often tips housekeeping in advance. Latest session was interrupted by someone from housekeeping dropping off a comforter and wasn't quite sure if was ordered by the gal or not. More interested in getting busy again!

My thought was it could be an attempt for more cash from some others of the staff when word of mouth passed down. All this with the sign on the door!

that after a certain time of day they "assume" that guest just forgot to take down the sign because guests get irritated and unreasonable when their room is not serviced. I "assume" that hotels differ on this policy. At any rate there is nothing magic about Do Not Disturb signs, except the way they sometimes magically disappear off a door in the middle of the night.

Fortunately, my date had not arrived yet.

The housekeeper seemed to feel that I was in the wrong room.  I called down to the front desk and they assured me I was in the correct room.  Not sure what the housekeeper's problem was.

Like Tabu says, always keep the door bolted and latched from the inside.

That is a no brainer... I was talking more about when they are already in the room when you are at the gym, the pool, etc. I have never been surprised when I was in the act. I did forget both the sign and the bolt when I had just arrived and was dancing around naked once... that was fun. Dude just stood there with his mouth open, and I did the same with this evil grin on my face. Good times.

Regardless of why I'm using the room. Any hotel worth its salt should also be taking any transgressions like that very seriously. Luckily, none of the hotels I've been to have ever done it. I've left DND signs up for an entire 2 day stay, without any housekeeping trying to come in "because maybe you forgot to take it down?".

I had one hotel where I ordered room service, but forgot to take off the DND sign. Room Service actually called down to the front desk while standing in front of my door, and had them ring my room phone to see if I still wanted the room service, or maybe wanted them to come back later. THAT's how a good hotel should be.

If that was in Las Vegas........not only do the doors have double locks..........but there is a physical bar that hooks to a device on the door frame that also prevents unwanted visitors.........whether they have a key or not............

Someone was NOT doing their due diligence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Oh, that must have been you.

Really?Wow..was just asking a question if anyone had similar experiences judging by the responses others have. This occurred in vegas both at high end properties and yes I should have checked the locks but really your response was rude people make mistakes.
I have certainly learned to check the door locks but in all of the years in this business never had that happen up until now.Live and learn.

He's a know it all. Things happen, you survived and what's the old saying, live and learn.

I engage the night chain or flip over lock making sure she sees me do it.  In my own room,  I have a door wedge...  with an alarm.  Set so an opening door will set it off.  Likely the maid would need fresh underwear if she set it off.

GaGambler356 reads

If it's so loud that the maid would need new underwear, can you imagine how the woman you are inside of is going to react?

sorry, but I think I will pass on any door alarms.

A similar door alarm.  I only paid a couple of bucks for mine at a closout store.  The bottom has a grippy surface so it won't slide on the floor.  I set the point even with the edge of the door so the door will open half way to the chain end.  The alarm has a switch so it is an option.  I DO use it when I'm sleeping.  Sorry, I read the article about hacking hotel door locks...  not taking any chances.
I have set the alarm but never had it tripped by an interloper.

I see the point that it would be conspicious...  not discrete...

When I travel, I have sought out housekeeping so she can do the room...  we don't need more than towels & free coffee packs...   while we are gathering our things for the day...   Might not be possible in larger hotels but she was already near our room.

I once lived in an oriental hotel for about two months and housekeeping would at times come in even though that sign was on. I don't travel with expensive things for reasons like this, most of the value in my possessions are electronics which are passcode protected and an occasional decent mechanical watch which when im not using goes into a mini personal safe.

Some hotels have a policy (usually in plain black and white somewhere in the room) that if you have the sign up for more than 3 days, they can and will enter without your permission. This is why I don't stay more than 3 days in the same hotel any more, and the morning of the 3rd day I always call and request something before my day 'starts.' I actually had this happen at a Crowne Plaza in Chicago once, and ended up tipping the girl 20 bucks just to go away lol. That works too. :)

Most hotel doors have a deadbolt lock, plus a latch on the door to prevent anyone from entering.

Everyone for sharing obviously others have experienced similar situations.Just thought it was odd

It varies by hotel and I guess human error/carelessness by staff. At a Le Meridian I once stayed at out west radioed my late checkout request to housekeeping and I was never bothered. Some 4 stars disappoint on occasion though.

When I first began working in FL at a 3 star hotel, I was with a gentleman on day 2 of my 3 day stay with the do not disturb and latch on the door around 9am. Housekeeping knocked anyway and I raised up to yell 'Please come back later!" Despite this, the door opened as far as the latch would allow and she got an eyeful of me on top riding his face in nothing but thigh highs and heels while reciprocating him orally.

I have never heard a door shut so quickly as I raised up to ask her to leave. I was only seeing him that day, so I figured it would be okay.

He and I laughed and resumed our fun. All is well that ends well! (At least that time.

It has happened to me a few times till I started putting the lock on the door each and every time.  Tell the manager.  Usually they will give some of your money back or give you free breakfast or dinner.  I hope this helps.

Juliette

Their DND signs are do not disturb on one side and please clean on another..

Any chance you had the please clean sign facing front?

I actually got very upset during a staycation there as I had many things lined up in spots and it was just a... Hmmmm cluttered get organized mess. I came back to the bed made and a total clutter pigpen. I called downstairs very angry. That's when I learned.. I still don't understand why hotels will do that, but I always double check now!

I have spent at least 4 years in hotels in my 30+ years in business and I can count on my finger the times I have been interrupted by a maid.

That being said, given that some of hobby activity goes on during the late morning/early afternoon hours, I would suppose the potential increases significantly

And I've never had that happen, lucky I guess because a few folks have said it's happened to them.

But I have had this happen to me twice, I check in and get my room key, use my room key in the door, and the room is occupied. I'll never forget the first time it happened it was a suite and when you enter the room you enter into the living room, bedroom and bath furthest from the entry, anyway a guy is sitting in the chair in the living room (fortunately working) and in I walk. The look on his face was like "what the fuck" (rightfully so) the look on my face must have been priceless because his expression changed immediately. I marched down to the front desk and they responded correctly and called him immediately to apologize while I waited for to get the correct key to my room. I can only imagine if he had been doing something other than working.
