END OF MESSAGE

The last few times I have had a business trip scheduled and had to vote early on the weekend before the election it probably took no more than an hour to cast my vote.  With that in mind I went by my registrar of voters to cast my vote on Friday before work.  I saw a line that appeared would take more time than I was willing to spend so I decided to postpone until Saturday.

Saturday came and I arrived at the same place 15 minutes after the polls had opened.  I could not find parking and left again saying I will try again but an hour ealrier.

Today I arrived a bit more the 30 minutes before the polls opened and found parking but still saw a big line.  I was hoping to be out in a couple of hours but it took twice that long.

In my time in line I saw people from all walks of life.  One couple of interest was a 30 year old hottie frumped down while hanging out with her 50 year old husband well over 50lbs overweight.  He had on his cross and a ministry T-shirt.  I imagine he shares some of the un-pure thoughts I was having about his hot wife as well.

Overall, the crowd was civil and made friends across what probably were party lines.  We were in it together as Americans.  Living in California, it was obvious from the typical demographics that about 60% were there to vote for Obama.

The one thing that I did notice is the there were only 5% of what you would call "youth" voters waiting in line.  The press always seems to put them up as a major swing factor but I didn't see that in line.  As I said, there were a broad spectrum of demographics so I thought the youth would have been represented in greater numbers.

Anyway, I hated losing those 4 hours but I am traveling this week and wouldn't have voted if I didn't wait.  There are people losing a lot more than 4 hours right now representing this country so I can't complain.

If I don't have to, I don't get up early!  No way!

Anyone who waits in line 4 hours for "early" voting is a fool. Well, almost as much a fool as anyone who would wait 4 hours in line on election day to cast a single meaningless vote.

Do you really have nothing at all better to do with 4 hours?

One can only hope that you stay home jacking off on election day. It would be a winning decision for everyone.

I could vote SEVERAL times in 4 hours, literally, LOL.

Kudos for your diligence though.

As I mentioned, I have always been able to get in and out of this in the past when I had travel plans that took me out of town on election day and I had to go to the registrar to vote.  I was trying to point out that this election was different than any I had voted in before.

Once I was in line, I thought I could get out in about 90 minutes tops.  However, after being in line I couldn't see walking away when it took longer than expected.  If I were home on Tuesday, it would take me 5-10 minutes at my neighborhood polling place.

Others can say it's just one vote.  I didn't vote for a candidate that is going to win in my state.  However, I do not take for granted the sacrifices that have been made to give me an opportunity to vote for a candidate of my choice.  I am by no means a political junkie but I respect the opportunities that this country provides us.

Hi Mike; Sounds like you're paying attention in Social Studies. Now you can complain if your candidate doesn't win.
