"most of the clients in nail salons don't even talk to the workers"

My ATF likes manicured hands on guys, so I get a manicure whenever I see her.

I don't talk to the workers. You know why? THEY'RE VIETNAMESE! THEY DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH!

Don't you have more important things to worry about?

Wow, so glad I took today off.  Otherwise I never would have found this connection!!!!!!!

So sitting at my computer, sipping coffee and I see this article on the NY Times - "The Price of Nice Nails"

If you don't want to read it I will sum it up...................*****The juxtapositions in nail salon workers’ lives can be jarring. Many spend their days holding hands with women of unimaginable affluence, at salons on Madison Avenue and in Greenwich, Conn. Away from the manicure tables they crash in flophouses packed with bunk beds, or in fetid apartments shared by as many as a dozen strangers*****

But hey as long as Providers have their nice lifestyle I guess everything is OK right:(

The article goes on to state how most of the clients in nail salons don't even talk to the workers.  I can sell almost all Providers behaving that way.  That attitude of "hey I got mine and fuck you too".

Just sent my wife an email that she and my kids are NO longer to go to any nail salons again EVER EVER EVER!!!!!

I DARE ALL PROVIDERS TO BE AS ETHICAL AND CARING AS RIDGETUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If not then we will settle for once and all who is the real asshole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious  ;)

and do you know what? You are absolutely right. You wouldn't believe the nasty stuff those women are saying right to your face when you are getting your nails done.

I always wondered about that too, until I ended up with a Vietnamese GF. She would translate for me exactly what these women were saying about their customers and it was absolutely hilarious.

BTW, you would be surprised just how much English some of these women speak. It's just like in the AMPs, they just don't speak English to YOU.

Aside from the distribution entities many own, they also understand the salon side of the business.  LOL

Many of my Vietnamese friends/clients are multi-lingual.

Have you been to Viet Nam yet?

and what was even more ironic is that the American name of my Exes best friend, who just happened to own a nail salon was Tammy. Too fucking funny.

That freakin clip makes me LMAO every time.

There is one particular lady who is SOOO like that clip. She once argued with me (not in a mean argument kind of way) about whether or not I was going out that night.

She: Are you going out tonight?
Me: Oh no, probably not.
She: Why not? Beautiful day, you go out!
Me: Oh, yeah *laugh*
She: You go out! You work so hard! You go out!
Me: Yeah you're right, I do work hard.
She: Yeah, you work hard! You go out! You take boyfriend, you go out.
Me: Yeah, maybe ...
She: You go out!

I could keep going this was not the whole conversation.

But seriously. I do speak to the nail salon ladies, always tip generously, and I always return to the same shop every other week. Not all of the nail salon ladies have it bad. I imagine in NYC where there is a nail salon on every corner, they might have it bad. But from what I can tell of the ladies at my shop, they are not sleeping in flophouses.

Do you refuse to talk with them?  I know people who refuse, and it's a fairly good indicator of their character - or lack thereof.

Do you know their home life?  If it turns out they do live in a flophouse, would you stop patronizing their workplace and deny them wages for work?

I've gotten a pedicure and loved every second of it.  Spent the time talking with the girl working on me; turns out she and her husband own the shop.  I was there early morning before any other staff arrived, and I've no idea how the staff lives or how much they're paid or how tips are distributed.  But not knowing won't stop me from repeating, just like hearing about something at another shop (next door, next city, next state, next country) won't stop me from going to this one again.  Instead, I would need evidence from this location and the people involved.

Methinks RT likes to use a very broad brush without bothering with the details like critical thought or facts.  But that's just my opinion based on what I've read of him on the boards.  Perhaps in real life he's a thoughtful, insightful and caring person.

and sit back and watch the replies. He rarely responds back after posting his OP. And he doesn't post like this on his local board, hope. He wouldn't want t appear a total a-hole troll on the board where he finds ladies to see.

He enjoys this crap. You won't find any of his BS on the Ohio board!

Steph xoxo

It's about time you meet your 3rd escort... :D

You can buy OPI nail polish at Kroger. I recommend Black Onyx for fingers and Nevermore for toesies.

That's the sound of that joke going right over your head.

Sometimes you just gotta let it roll  ;)

The nail business is one of the more recession proof businesses out there.

And it's all because of you ladies.

I had no idea that professional mani-pedis were a prerequisite. Shit.

Guide to successful prostitution manual.

You need to get with the program!

I talk to my manicurist. And we are friendly.
My manicurists name is ___________/ (editing for privacy but I DO know it.)
She lives with her aunt, uncle, and cousin in a 4 bedroom house.

One time she burned herself by spilling a small vat of UV gel, all over her hand and arm...
It's in a big Walmart, this Nail salon,  next to a McDonalds, also inside the Walmart; I ran next door to get some mustard (ha, I know you think I am crazy, but it's old Native American burn treatment, that instantly takes the heat out of a burn)
I ran back as fast I could hauling ass through the store looking crazy, and barefoot to boot.
I rinsed her hands off for her, with a series of cold water & towel blotted, and reapplied, until the redness went down.

I told her she didn't have to finish, she insisted, I argued. She shoved me back to my chair.
And finished, even though there were moments she was in obvious discomfort.

I tipped her very generously.
As I always do.

Before I left, she handed me a whole bag of samples they had just got in, of some bath & girly products.
I told her she didn't have to do that.
She thanked me profusely for helping her.

The next time I saw her, I asked about her hand.
She laughed and told me that we had missed some of the burns "with the muss-tad" she said, and explained that the missed area has blistered, but the other that I treated had not.
I was amazed, and she thanked me again, telling me how thoughtful I was....

I would hope that anyone in my position would help another person who just gotten badly burnt!
(My grams was a nurse 30+ years, and my mom went to nursing school as well, so I guess we are ingrained with staying calm & helping as efficiently as possible!)

All manicurists are not "victims." (or trafficked)

The same as not all prostitutes are "victims." (or trafficked)

Give me a fucking break Ridge... But you are gaining momentum back towards the SPOTY award.
And you emailed this to your ex?!

You are a fucktard.

Now kindly fuck off.

Foxy

I guess you didn't receive the your trophy---a life time's supply of Preparation H

My manicurist is Vietnamese  and we text back and forth, she sent me photos when she went back to Vietnam for a month, I tip the hell out of her and I call her by her real name not her simple to understand American name. I got her a birthday and Christmas present, and I sent her a Happy New Year text on TET. She sometimes makes me a big jug size portion of Pho soup.

Her hubby has a great job here, she dresses her ass off. AGAIN why don't you post your bullshit on your home board? you know the one were you'd NEVER post this shit and your post sound sane? Why is that, you never answer when I ask?

enlighten us PLEASE...

but don't even bother trying to pronounce the name of a Thai woman. Their names are on average between 15-20 letters.

I used to laugh about that with a couple of Thai hookers that I ended up dating. If we were ever stopped by LE coming in or out of here incall and they asked me for her "real" name, I wouldn't have a clue as to how to pronounce it, even though I knew all of their real information.

Seven tones in Vietnamese; only four in Chinese. If you weren't raised around it, I'd wager those ladies are just being polite to you.

but it's a lot easier to pronounce a name consisting of three or four letters than it is to pronounce one with twenty, and THAT was my point.

Because if you can read and if you did read the article you will clearly see that anyone that patronizes these establishments is contributing to the problem.

But leave it to a Hooker like you to not give a damn as long as you can get a Jug of Pho Soup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you should examine your own issues.  I am guessing that when you were 18 you never imagined being in this position in life.  Then again maybe you did - sooo sooo sad.

But I'll leave it to you to rant while people like me actually go do something to help other people.  You are probably not interested in that since it doesn't pay YOU.

RT

You're still trolling... but now you're a tad less entertaining. Gotta improve your game... lol
I love pho soup by the way.

Poor disenfranchised immigrants are struggling to make a better life and you are beating your chest with one hand and holding them down with the other. Way to go.

Why don't you rant like this to CIVVIE ladies you know in the work place! And I've noticed the "sistas" are steady in there getting mani pedis so go scream at them. They will slap you upside your raggedy ass head til your ears ring.

It's not ladies in the biz that are the problem. and while you're at it please start screaming to Nike about who makes their product.

You always act like there is something WRONG with ladies being in tis BIZ HERE on the GDB. GO PUT IT ON YOUR LOCAL BOARD WHERE YOU SUCK UP, KISS ASS and don't act like a judgmental TROLL.

Jack ass...
