My money is on the city winning their suit....since there are rather specific requirements for Church status.

Not sure how they plan to explain or show the taxing agencies (State, Local, Federal) why they needn't file tax returns, pay real estate taxes, report income from "donations"....and then drag their "parishioners" into the fray with falsifying their personal returns with contribution deductions for ineligible 501(c)3 organizations.

Honestly...I've had a few folks want to start a Church for the tax exempt status.  I hand them the list of requirements (in PDF format now  LOL)....and that's the end of that dream  ;)

I absolutely love this:

Private sex club was getting ready to open, and had permits, when someone complained that what goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults must be stopped.  So the club changed paperwork and *tada* it's now a church!  And since no one is permitted to define a church, or place limits on how the laypeople worship, there's really nothing the local "panties in a wad" group can do about it.

And if the protesters are complaining that sex in a church means the facility should be shut down, then they better start by shuttering their own church doors.  In my experience there's a LOT of hanky-panky going on in churches, during which many are beseeching God and praising his name.

There would be a bunch of parishioners proclaiming "Oh God!!!!" often.

That's one Sunday service I wouldn't mind getting up for.  Up for...  LOL

I like the way you think.

Maybe - Our Lady of the Miraculous Orgasm...?  Has a nice ring to it.

Not to get too philosophical around here but if you do believe in God you have to admit he created men and women as two very different forms - obviously he had important reasons for doing so.  Certainly sex (and the enjoyment of it) was one of those prime considerations.  And by participating in the enjoyment of that activity it has to be a celebration of his divine plan, yes?

And if you don't believe in God, having really amazing sex is probably the closest you will get to a religious or spiritual experience.  It cetainly relieves stress, makes you a better neighbor and can make you more likely to turn the other cheek.  :-)

Hmmm, have we found a unifying world religion?  The Church of the Really Good Lay.  LOL.

You just need one who has the will and the tenacity, like this one:

(I hope you all know Italian and/or German, or whatever those subtitles are.)

They've got some attorney on the case already.  I'm sure he was smart enough to get his retainers paid well in advance. LOL

I think their current attorney should get some of his pals on board as well...get bigger retainers and run with a bunch of arguments.

They'll have enough battles on enough fronts to make everyone some money.

Want to bet that at the end of the day they'll get a permit to be a swingers club just as they wanted in the first place?

Just follow the money trail...it's the way to go

The article says they stated no sex will take place. I don't know all the legalities of being a church but I would think it would make sense to have a religion that involves sexual worship. That way you put it all out there and no one can say they are acting outside of their churches activities.

There could be a conflict of interest there.

I would not be surprised if all religion was born out of sexual worship.

haha a room called "Handbells."

I hope their business thrives. Closeminded people drive me crazy!

It's not like people are going to be having sex outside, in view of the school.
I also doubt that The Social Club will be open during school hours.

Uptight religious folk! Grrr...
