I could never figure out how to find a hooker until I discovered craigslist. Prior to the internet, how did you find hookers? Did they place an ad in the classifieds? Then you called them on their home phone, plotted a date at a local hotel? How did you know what they looked like? How did you get the room #?

I hung around plenty of bars growing up and was never able to identify one hooker. I went to tittie bars and was not once propositioned. Although they were in the "big city" compared to where I lived and I probably looked like jailbait at the time. lol

BTW, My take on this whole situation is that because of the internet, it has become much easier for the ladies to access us and feel safe. And because of that, the quality of the ladies in the biz has increased exponentially!!! And for that, I am grateful.

Your Thoughts, If Any

Probably get some stories about red light districts and navy ports of call.

There were several ways to "hobby" before the internet. Legal and illegal brothels have existed forever. Yellow pages agencies. Classified ads, Street walkers. Casino girls.

The list of how guys (and girls of course) did this Pre TER and Pre internet is a very long one, but I have to say, that I LOVE the hobby in this day and age, although I LOVE it even more in other countries where it's completely legal and out in the open rendering review sites pretty much unnecessary.

Don't know where you are but prior to the Internet the simplest way for me to find prostitutes was to go to Nevada where prostitution is legal in some parts of the state. Not a big problem for me in California to get there.

Another way was to look for ads in adult weeklies. Sometimes there was pic. Sometimes not. You basically just gamble that the pic is real or the description was accurate enough.

Yep the internet has helped both sides of the hobby no doubt about it -be it from a marketing or from safety standpoint.

Publications like the Chicago Reader and the Village Voice were full of ads. The Yellow pages were full of ads as well. A lot of word of mouth referrals. Hotel Concierges knew ladies. You told the Concierge that you wanted an "extra" pillow.

The Internet means more lone wolfes are in the game.

And then there are the AMP, which have been prevalent and active for decades.  Massage parlors are not limited to Asians, but it is more popular and an easy way to get alone with a girl.  Word would travel fast if there was a good one.

Being from Boston, the Phoenix was the place to go for escorts, otherwise it was on to the streets and bars in the old combat zone. Showing my age now.

(And I don't mean the Cardinals or Diamondbacks either.)

The amazing thing as I look back on it is just how lucky I was to find so many fairly good gals from their ads.  It was all sight unseen and catch as catch can.

I'd get in a horny mood some Saturday afternoon and found an extra $80 in my pockets (Yup, back in the 1970s that's all it took.) and I'd grab the ads and start dialing.  I had to dial at least 10 numbers before someone would actually answer the phone and you had to be able to be there in the next 30 minutes or less.

They would direct you to a nearby pay phone where often they had a view of you, or there would be a secret code written next to the phone which you had to recite to them.  Then you'd get their address and apartment number (If the phone wasn't busy which meant someone got there ahead of you.), and then with any luck there would be a half decent gal who would give you a 30 minute "hour" (one pop!) and send you on your way with a smile.

I'd say I was satisfied with 90% of the hook-ups though there's no question that the quality of the entire experience is much better with the advent of the internet and TER.

Occasionally you'd really hit the jackpot and find a gal who was excellent and she would give you her private phone number so you could always arrange ahead to see her and get better treatment too.  Sadly after a few visits the numbers would be disconnected and I'd be back to spinning the wheel of fortune.

I must have seen close to 100 gals over a ten year period that way.  Of course there were  a few who to this day engender nightmares when I think back on the experience, but that's life.

What differences  does it make now? Go with the current flow.

Word of mouth led me to some great brothels, Strip clubs were typically loaded with local talent and of course when traveling you could pick up the phone book in your hotel room. The yellow pages devoted entire pages to Escort and Massage services.
Sigh! those were some good times!

Every time I travel alone for business the cab driver will pull a card from his pocket or suggest a place for me to visit.  Been the same for 20 years and the last time it happened was in Vegas on Super bowl weekend.
