Did not know HPV could cause anal cancer, which killed Farrah Fawcett BTW (and yes I had a Farrah poster in my room as a young teen) No, I'm not saying Farrah did Greek or that her cancer was caused by HPV. Now, let's see who posts first saying that Farrah's cancer wasn't related to HPV.

Anyone can get anal cancer... ANYONE
(However, in my perverted-teen mind ... Farrah did do Greek and a bunch of other stuff daily/or nightly/sometimes both.)

Think my mom knew I had the F.F. poster up for that reason...Ahhh the teen years I had. Being called to come downstairs for dinner and yell back, "COMING!!" ... IF my parents only knew the irony of it all ... at least I always remembered to wash my hands before sitting down at the table. EEEwww DD TMI! LOL

While HPV affects a great number of women, most are able to naturally kick it out of their systems between 1-2 years.  For those cases where it does not leave a woman's system it can often turn into some form of cancer.

Without having done research on this illness, this is my basic understanding of HPV.

It won't always turn into cancer...some people's immune systems are just weaker than others. For those with strong immune systems (those who rarely get sick), the HPV virus usually leaves the body in about a year...for those who are prone to getting any bug going around, it may take up to 2 years to work itself out of the body. There are over 100 strains, but strains 16 and 18 are contributed to 70% of all cervical cancer cases, & 99% of cervical cancer is linked to at least one strain of HPV. Many times, there are NO symptoms, but they can be ID's through regular PAP smears, and close supervision can catch pre-cancerous cells early many times.
