Funny. I just got a PM from a wise hobbyist who warned me that 80% of providers have some sort of hair extensions. I figured common sense would dictate asking first, but I should have said,

I love having my hair pulled, and grabbing a nice handful of hair and pulling.
The sensation will differ depending on where you pull hair from. If you pull from the top of the head, it tends to be more intense than say, the nape of the neck. I too can get a little over-zealous when pulling hair, but I tend to keep things in check overall.

There's definitely a technique to hair pulling. You're right, it doesn't have to be painful. BUT, it can damn well be. For example, it doesn't hurt me at all if the guy kind of grabs my hair as a ponytail, and firmly tugs (NOT yanks) it from the base/roots (NOT the ends).
Sorry to sound like Debbie Downer. I'm not against having this done, but I think guys should tread carefully when doing this in the p4p context (some girls might be afraid to speak up, especially with a reviewer)...if you don't want to kill the flow by asking outright, pull a piece softly, and ask her if it's OK to go harder. Make sure she knows she can tell you if it's too much, and that you're truly asking out of a desire to avoid causing her pain, not just expecting (AKA prompting) to hear 'yes'.

I love having my hair pulled, as long as you know how to do it. A lot of people tend to get most of the force on the baby hairs along the front that hurt! I also tend to pull hair too...
I personally dont mind it you just do it, as long as you take my cue if I indicate its time to back off. Most non invasive things I dont mind if you gently try and respect me if I tell you to back off. Though it's probably a good idea to ask and not too get too rough, unless you know each other and know its ok.
