It isn't public money that this is coming from. It is private money being used to enhance image.

I admit it is shallow, but this is what all the campaigns have done for decades.

It may not be clothes, but it is all on items that make the person look better.  This is what a teleprompter does. It makes the spearer look better. This is what lighting does. This is what make-up does.

So they didn't want her coming out in her grubby parka for formal occassions. BIG DEAL.

The party took some money to make someone look attractive. SO WHAT?

Of the $150,000 spent by the Republican National Committee on clothing for the vice presidential candidate, $50,000 worth of clothes was returned immediately after the national convention, $50,000 worth hasn't been worn yet and $50,000 is being used by the Palin clan.

Sarah Palin told FOX News on Thursday that some of the clothes that were ill-fitting or just bought to be tried and possibly worn were returned right away.

Everything that "could be returned was," she said. Another third of the clothing remains unwrapped and packed in the belly of the vice presidential candidate's campaign plane and the rest is being worn.

Republican aides say the purchases were necessary because the family was whisked out of Alaska without notice, then scattered across the country for campaign activities not least of which was a week of convention appearances.

"Those clothes are not my property," Palin told FOX News' Sean Hannity. "We had three days (at the convention) of using clothes that the RNC purchased."

Palin added that she knows how to make a dollar work for her appearance.

"If people knew how Todd and I and our kids shop so frugally. My favorite shop is a consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska, called 'Out of the Closet,' and my shoe store is called 'Shoe Fly' in Juneau, Alaska. It is ... not 5th Avenue type of shopping," Palin said, adding that the RNC purchases will either be returned or go to charity

$150K, $100K, $50K ...what's the difference.

The joke is that she was sold as a populist.  And then dressed up like an "elitist"  ... I think there is a word for that ... errr ...   irony

Piper's Louis Vuitton bag ... couldn't they at least BUY AMERICAN ??

She should have kept em. I think she's hot. Hot women should have nice clothes.

Somehow I still cant see her picking through racks at Wal-mart though.

She's the only non-elitist no matter what she wears. Geesh guys, get a grip.

Biden actually has a negative net worth. That might make him Joe six pack to some. To me, a man with a law degree and decades in the Senate who can't put together at least a couple of mil, isn't a man I want anywhere near my money.

Biden has to spend that money on Botox injections and cannot give it to charity :)
Then again maybe his Seante Health plan pays for it so he really doe not have an excuse for giving any money to charity :)

From Wikipedia:

"With a net worth between $59,000 and $366,000, and almost no outside income or investment income, he is consistently ranked as one of the least wealthy members of the Senate.[64][65][66] Biden states that he has been listed as the second poorest member in Congress, a distinction that he is not proud of, but attributes it to being elected early in his career.[67]"

The fact that they had to buy her fancy clothes is because she did not have them before.

The fact that they had to buy them is becuase she did not have them before, and that proves that she was what she says she was.

She was a plain "hockey mom," who didn't have a lot of fancy stuff, so they want her to look good on the campaign trail. Can't use her real stuff, so they bought it.

Yes, all the campaigns the make things look good.
They spent tens of thousands of dollars on light crews for Obama for Denver. They spent God knoww how much on his video. They use make-up before every debate.  Do you think he just grabbed his perfectly tailored suit off the rack at K-Mart.  HE HAD IT BEFORE.

Of the four candidates and their spouses, one did not have fancy clothes.

Yes, she is as real as they said.

and even I don't spend that kind of money on clothes.  My most expensive suit is $1,700.  I'm not sure I've bought $50,000 worth of clothes in my adult life.  Maybe I've come close.  Explaining how she has $50,000 worth just sitting around just pisses me off more.

She should not be dressing as well as my family or better, she's a damned public servant.

This is such a joke.  Have you looked at the woman?  Most of the time, she's wearing black suits.  I think she could get away with some nice $500 suits.  As for the rest of her family, FUCK THEM.  They're not public servants, they're leeches.  I understand why they need 3 to 4 outfits each for the various functions they attend, but each outfit should be $500 or less.  Let's see now for the whole clan, that $500 x 4 x 10 (assuming they'll probably pop out some more kids).  That's $20,000.  What the fuck is up with $100,000 worth of clothes?

I think she has officially spent more on clothes than I have made in the entirety of my life.

You're right, though.  The RNC and its contributors willingly paid for that.  It's honestly the least of my worries -- her fanatical views on abortion (and how abortion bombers somehow don't qualify as terrorists) and same-sex partnerships, her hard-ons for domestic drilling and wolf forelegs, and her complete lack of understanding regarding foreign policy are much scarier.  However, while the RNC may have paid for her clothes, the McCain campaign has spent over $22,000 in the first two weeks of October employing Palin's makeup artist.  McCain's campaign is being financed by the public.  Thus, I am paying for Palin's makeup job (which I tend to think is shitty and overdone most of the time anyway -- I think she would look a lot better if she would allow her natural beauty to show through a little more... less blush, less eye makeup).  In this case, "so what" really does not cut it.

So I guess you paid for the high yelllow's makeup  Obama not Michelle since you probably contributed to the OBAmesiah mission :)

It's not a big deal.  It does demonstrate what I have believed since the first time I saw her speak; she is full of shit.

How can one claim to be a 'typical' hockey mom and spend $150,000 on clothing.  $20,000 is a HUGE number for clothing.  $150,000 is simply unconscionable.

It doesn't prove she is full of S___. It proves she is real.  She was introduced as a plain person, and, in fact, when they said, "Time to get dressed in our best for the show." She said, "But I don't have fancy clothes."

If she had a dozen pair of Manolo Blahnek before, that would prove she was full of it.

As I have said before, all candidates spend huge amounts on looking good.  $150,000 for what is essentially costuming is such a drop in the bucket.

I know that sounds like a lot to most people, but behind the scenes in advertising, entertainment, and, yes, political campaigns, it is chump change.

In 1960, people who heard the debate on radio or read it in the papers thought Nixon one.  Those who saw it on TV thought Kennedy won.  The entire thing was visual image.

Why is it any different to buy an expensive skirt that looks good, than it is to have a full time make-up artist on staff?  Why is it different to have a blouse than it is to have a lighting director at the convention?

It is all spending money on appearance and image.  So what?

Finally, look at it this way. Obama just spend about 700 million dollars, with a huge amount going to TV ads.  Of all forms of communication of ideas, TV ads are probably have the least content in information and the maximum amount of image.

And people are concerned over petty cash.
